GF signed with Kimbia.

Per Lopez Lomong's twitter, he is still in Flag. Although I thought it was weird, apparently he just wanted a better training session before flying to London. Since the track events begin later on in the Games, there is no reason for him to be in London so soon. Especially if he wasn't gonna be holding the flag in the Opening Ceremonies again.

http://twitter.com/abumbaloughthey are all heading to Europe pretty soon though. At least thats my bet.
If jet lag doesn't bother him he may have made the smart choice, raining like crazy in london now...
What bothers me, is that if GF gets hurt, which he is prone to do, all the blame will go on Jerry, just as it did Dave. The kid doesn't listen. I sincerely hope he has changed this quality.

Don't know the details about what happened under Dave's tutelage but I'm guessing that you are mistaken about what will happen next.
Good outcome: All hail Jerry (much scorn heaped on Dave)
Bad outcome: Kid's made of glass - nobody could keep him healthy (hey, maybe Dave's OK after all)
When Jager ran his first steeple this year, the first words out of my mouth were, "Jager will break the American record and German Fernandez will take up the steeple and be even better."
Now German is moving to Schu's team. and I guarantee his miling days are over. If German starts training with Jager for the steeple, we'll start making a real impact in the world. German and Evan could replace the french dudes.
And before any of you try to tell me that German wont run the steeple because he's injury prone: 1) he's no more injury prone the Jager, and 2) its a complete misconception that the steeple leads to injury (with exception to barrier collisions.

I wish I had known about Lomong's book signing yesterday! Dang...

German will NEVER seriously take up the steeple. The issue is not one of being injury prone. The issue is that German is very much a pure rhythm runner. The Steeple constantly breaks your rhythm with every hurdle/barrier. As such the steeple would be horrible for German.
You are right about German's days as a miler being over, though. He will undoubtedly be going to the 5000/10000.

Smith is Jerry's guy. Ratcliffe has how many guys running under Jerry?
I am hoping against, but betting on GF being made of glass. I'm not sure he has ever put together 2+ years of consistent training. He is uber talented. Look at what he has done in those couple of healthy stretches. But to run at an internationally competitive level requires many years of healthy consistent training. Hope Schu can keep him healthy.
Well, not to burst your bubble or anything, but Jager isn't necessarily "injury prone". His injury wasn't of biomechanical origin; it was from falling down some frickin' stairs.
GF is injury prone? Did Jerry know this? OMG, they should have called you. This is vital information. Maybe you can call them and let them know. Hopefully, they read letsrun.
Looks like Elliott Heath will be joining Jerry's group as well.

"The best thing for German's running career is to do everything he can to get healthy and stay healthy long enough for 18 months of mostly uninterrupted training with some fellow studs. Delivering something significant soon is utterly irrelevant."

18 months?????? That sounds like a pretty big cush of time just to train! Why do you think he needs that many months? Shouldn't he race way before that? When I said "soon"' I was thinking more like within the next few months, not like next week!
........YEA, and my emotions - I save those for my sexy wife!
This is strange. Nike usually signs guys up in anticipation of them being in the Olympics. German didn't make London and Brasil is a long ways away.
German is far more injury prone than Jager. Jager has run run more than a year straight without injury.
The steeple does not NECESSARILY lead to injury but if you are already injury prone, you will be destroyed by the steeple.
You may think you are a steeple fan but you sure as hell aren't a steeple coach. German will never run the steeple, Jerry and Pascal are far too smart for that.

-I sincerely hope I am! I wish him all the best of success.

I did run 8:48 back in the 80s. Ran sub 9 dozens of times. I know quite about the event. Tell me coach, if the athlete is properly coached, how does the steeple destroy athletes anmore than 5k training?
Kimbia Athletics does NOT necessarily mean Nike and Schumacher. Sure he coaches alot of their athletes, but look at Dicrescenzo (Puma sponsored and runs for NJ/NY track club.

Never said you didn't run the steeple, just that you had no idea about coaching it.
As I said, if an athlete is injury prone, coming down from over 3 feet 35 times per race and countless more times in practice is not good for them. (Especially with the pitch of the water pit). Not sure how you run the 5k, but this generally doesn't happen in that event.
