Emily Mondor ran 16:43 to win NAIA today, second place was 18:09! Emily is the best collegiate runner in North America, last year she ran 4:10.9 for 1500 meters and this fall she ran 15:35 for 5k at the North American Road Champs. Her best 5k on the track is 15:42. There is no athlete in NCAA that has her range. She was 10th at World Cross about 4 years ago as a Junior. She is also only 21 years old, so she isn't an "overaged foreigner".

And almost won Bolder Boulder 10k this year. No arguement here. She is absolutely dominant.
-
...and she's a Canadian, keep it up Emily!
-
i'm pretty sure she didn't run bolder boulder 10km. maybe you mean the north american 5km challenge where she finished 2nd in 15:32? in addition, she beat a strong ncaa field in a 4km xc race at stanford earlier this season. i hope she wins the canadian xc nationals next weekend! she's incredible!

Thanks for teh correction, it was the NA Challenge. Now my correction: her name is Emilie (French-Canadian), not Emily.
-
hell yeah! emily mondor kicks ass!! she would beat the likes of shalen flanagan and lauren fleshman any day! does anyone know why she didnt come down to the good ol u.s.a to run in the NCAA?? i'm sure she had tons of offers!

Sorry, but Ritz is better. So is J. Torres. And yes, for a sophomore, when most are 18 or 19, 21 is indeed "overaged".
-
actually most sophmores are 20!...also did ritz or j.torres run world cross when they were 15 and come 10th!
-
No, most high schoolers are 17 or 18 when they graduate and are that same age when they are in their first college cross season that next fall. The VAST MAJORITY of college freshmen are not older than 18 for cross country. Even Old Man Ritz didn't turn 19 until after his frosh collegiate cross campaign was over. You must have gotten lost, frostbitten, and hypothermic in the snowy woods when you were out checking your maple taps and ice fishing holes, we aren't talking about "who was the best 15 year-old runner in North America", we're talking about the best collegiate runner in North America NOW. When Ritz DID run world cross as a junior, he finished a little bit better than 10th. But none of them are 15 or juniors anymore, are they? You can dwell on the past, we're talking about NOW.

buddy settle down! ok, even now i still say she is 10 times better than any of them..the girl is amazing, just look at her stats! every race she runs collegiatly she is virtually unchallanged, through in a little competition and she is guarenteed to go faster! ritz at least has competition to push him when he races! face it, she dominates! and by the way i am american so you're 'making fun of canadians' comments aren't offending anyone!

a picture would be nice :p

I could tell you were American from your writing 'abilities'. I was just hoping the extreme cold could be blamed for rattling the portion of your brain responsible for logic. Why don't you calm yourself down, Backstreet Boy? Just because she dominates the competition she faces doesn't make her better, since she just dominates on a very weak level. She's the Alan Webb of the NAIA. Would you disagree that men's running, both collegiately and overall, has a lot better and deeper competition than women's running does? Now just to stop the misogynist accusations and protests before they start, that's just an observation and not a statement of how I prefer things to be. Let's put this in a bigger (and better) context than collegiate competition or something that happened over 5 years ago. Women's 5000m WR is over a minute better than Mondor's best. Both Torres and Ritz are within 50 seconds of the men's 5000m WR. If you want to look at it percentagewise, the difference between Mondor's PR and the WR is 7.7% and the difference between Ritz's PR and the WR is 6.4% (note: for Torres, it's an even smaller percentage). There it is in black and white. I'd agree that Mondor is the best FEMALE collegiate runner in North America, there is no doubt of that, but to say that she's the best collegiate runner in North America, period, is wrong.

I have to say that in a race Brannen would beat Mondor even if she picked the distance.
She is definitely the best female collegian in North America but not the best overall...I could name a whole bunch of guys that can run faster than her.
She was offered a lot of scholarships but was worried about being burned out by an NCAA program. She was injured coming out of high school and once she healed up she headed out West to train with Leah Pells (4th in the 1500m in Atlanta Olympics).
