ITEN, Kenya- Seventeen year-old Tanzanian Josephine Deemay beat a strong field of elite athletes on Saturday to win a high-altitude road race.

Joyce Chepchumba finished 17th
Lornah Kiplagat finished ?
Esther Kiplagat finished 16th
Deemay, "It is my first time to run outside Tanzania and beating such a strong field motivates me to perform better. I am now training for the Tanzanian national half-marathon race to be held in Arusha on December 21 and I am sure I will win, " she said. (Have she forget about their new marathon National Record Holder of 2:24:59 will run also!)

Hopefully Vipam was making this post with 'tongue in cheek' - or the alternative explanation could be ignorance.
For clarification, this race is at the camp developed and paid for by Lornah Kiplagat and her husband Pieter Langerhorst. They held their first race at the camp at this time last year. The camp is about two years old now and is designed to help develop Kenyan women athletes. It is Lornah's plan to put something back into the sport via the HATC (High Altitude Training Camp) at Iten in Kenya.
The elite runners come to the race to support Lornah's efforts to help women runners, and they jog through the race. Same thing last year, with a lot of notables there like Catherine Ndereba, Joyce Chemchumba, Tegla Loroupe, Hellen Kimaiyo, as well as Lornah Kiplagat.
So the 17 year old Tanzanian did not exactly "trounce" anyone.
