"So relieved to be my own athlete."
I will never understand how people can be so publicly uncouth on twitter or facebook or whatever.
I have never heard of Jackie Areson before this, but that is just utterly classless.

Which race did Ciarin beat Rupp in? Was it the NB at the Armory? He got hurt right after. That was after he begged to get in OP and had to pay for his own altitude apartment/tent. I didn't think that sounded so good. Too bad. I liked his swagger finishing last year, at Worlds, and moving into the pros.

Since the vast majority of people aren't on twitter. The tweet people are referring to included a picture of her new plain Nike kit.

I don't get it.
Relived for getting a nike kit in the mail?
The implication is that she's not running for the Oregon Project anymore and is relieved about it. Why she's "relieved" is something that people will now obsess over. Twitter is a strange thing in that it allows people to put their opinions out there in an instant without thinking about it, much like LetsRun, but it's not anonymous. I'd like to see FloTrack reach out to Jackie to get a handle on the situation so there doesn't have to be more speculation.
It won't matter. The message will be cleaned up by then if she plans to keep her Nike sponsorship. Just like Olianard.

Agree^^ Wonder how she rationalizes "being her own athlete?" Nike still owns her ass...and Magness has her ass!

You are right. Ciaran had a bunch of tweets which disappeared right after he left Oregon, but before it was announced. Someone posted on LetsRun at the time that they gleaned from twitter that Ciaran meant to do himself harm.
Twitter is a dangerous thing. By jumping off of runners' twitters today, I accidentally worked my way back to the fact that a well-known current runner's father got some bad press from the blow back of a major gambling related scandal sometime ago. Hell, the internet is a dangerous place. I think the internet has reduced the six degrees of separation by a few.
BREAKING: Magness announces the move, says Areson's going with. Blamo: http://bit.ly/OINZKn
It is called "Freedom of Speech" baby!

I kind of agree. I mean, it's not like Alberto was holding a gun to her head keeping her in the group. She could have been her own athlete anytime she wanted.
looks like things ended amicably, as per usual things were way overblown
Ritz has been a constant for quite some time with Salazar now.
Isn't JA going back to TN to train with her Charisma mates ?
Any clue how much Magness was making at Nike OP?
Again, it comes down to resource allocation, and Jackie was unfortunately at the bottom AlSal's barrel. Its Mo, Rupp, Ritz and then..........everyone else. Magness was stagnating in HIS development potential too, so its a good move.
Oops Karma just knocked on her front door. She isn't good enough to be an "open" Nike athlete. Are you kidding me? She wasn't even the best on the team. I'm sure she has a contract so Nike sent her a kit. Next yr. she really learn what being her own athlete is.

It would be idiotic for Nike to drop her. Yeah she didn't do well in the Trials but look at the top ten US women's 5k times this year:
1)Julia Lucas-15:08.52
2)Julie Culley-15:13.77
3)Jackie Areson-15:14.31
4)Molly Huddle-15:14.40
5)Lisa Uhl-15:15.22
6)Jessica Pixler Tebo-15.19.43
7)Kim Conley-15:19.79
8)Abbey D'Agostino-15:19.98
9)Brie Felnagle-15:22.39
10)Deena Kastor-15:23.51
Athletes get dropped when they don't perform well for an extended period of time, not when they have a bad performance.
There is more to a contract and even though it is an Olympic yr the 5000 is weak for the US. The American record is 30' faster! I'm worried about Huddle, Lucas had a great yr., Uhl has maintained which considering that she ran the same times while going to Vet school full time she might want to consider finishing her degree. The future is # 6 and 8. Do you honestly believe Areson will get more than some clothes and shoes? Also, even if your MJ you know better than to twitter or talk trash about your sponser.

i agree with this sentiment. Just like when any of us leaves a job to move on to a new opportunity, Magness is doing the same.
