Hutchins is amazing. Did you hear the pronunciation on the French no-name Pierre Ambroise Bosse? Consummate professional.

Rudisha just said that Tanguy did not hear the gun at the start...
Why doesn't he have a rabbit that can go 500-600m? Is he not allowed?
Rudisha wins by 4 seconds+ ... On another level. Battle for 2nd place at Olympics.
Rabbit was practically useless, as soon as Rudisha caught him he pulls out, and only lasted 400. Shearer could pull him to a world record.
Rudisha needs to invite Charles Jock--he does that every single time.
9.99 for Tyson Gay, 10.03 for Gatlin, 10.08 for Lemaitre. 0.0 wind reading
HOPE FOR AMERICA! Tyson Gay defeats Justin Gatlin! His start was terrible though--worst in the field. If he gets a good start he can go 9.8x in still air

I wonder whether Tyson's start has been compromised by his hamstring surgery. He was slow out of the blocks at the trials and at Pre. That was never an issue for him prior to the surgery.
tyson- you will not win gold if you don't do something about your start. try jumping rope. this will sharpen your reaction time.
right now your start sucks!

While he wasn't quick out of the blocks (Lemaitre was slower from what I could see) his main problem was in the pickup phase. He was standing tall way too soon. Great finish though.
Tyson's start had to have been one of the worst in his career, but his top-end was quite incredible. He has some work to do, but he's never been one to shy away from a bit of effort. He'll give himself a chance to be in the hunt.
As for the 5k, I think we are all forgetting that there were no rounds today, and Rupp, Lagat, and Lamong looked super comfortable at the trials. I'm not saying they are going to metal, but I think the US is going to be more competitive at the Olympics than we are giving them credit for.

That's too slow, the PM need to come through about a second faster.
Gay can't be too far off. He had the fastest reaction time (not sure why the link says women):

I'm no sprinter, but it seams like the elements after your initial reaction would be easier to work on than the reaction itself.

It was not his reaction, it was his drive phase. Nothing seem mechanically wrong, seems almost like he is just being conservetive on the start. The main is he didn't grimace as much this race and any time you can walk down a a 9.8x sprinter is a good sign. You can fix a start with practice and better execution, but you can't fix accceleration is a couple of weeks. The French athlete suffers from having long legs; definitely more of 200/100 type. I know Both has long legs as well, but he is an enigma. If the French athlete was an American he would w/o a doubt be a 200/400 guy.
A few things:
1. How good is Rudisha?! Damn! The 800 is completely a race for 2nd. I don't even think anyone will even tryto challenge him.
2. SIX under 12:50?! Someone asked if Bekele getting beat was good for the sport. YES, imho. People were so afraid to take the lead from him before, then he would launch a 53 from the front holding everyone off. Now they're taking the lead from him and turning the screws the last few laps AND launching kicks.
The train really held on in this race, too, with 11 under 13:00.
3. It looks like Alamirew finally got his 5000m chops. This is the guy who came from nowhereto drop 7:27 and 7:28 a couple years ago, obliterating fields of established runners, then couldn't run under 13:12 or so. Now he's a 12:48 man!
4. I really wish Rupp and Mo were in this race.
