Galen Rupp is the only male tack and field athlete who qualified in 2 events, joining 4 women, Carmelita Jeter, Sanya Richards-Ross, Shalane Flanagan, and possibly one more, Allyson Felix.
That's quite an accomplishment. Conratulations, Galen.

One thing that nobody brought up is that Rupp is the first distance runner to win both the 5 and 10 at the Olympic Trials since 1952. People should be talking about that and not about breaking Pre's record.
It's been getting a lot of play on SportsCenter. I assume PTI will discuss it tomorrow.

Yeah, first to complete that double in 60 years is pretty amazing.
Won both 5k and 10k, broke Pre's 5k Oly Trials record, and Meb's 10k Oly Trials record as well.
Galen Rupp will NOT...
O f*** it I'm always wrong

That why we need Cliff to keep on predicting.

Is it really? I don't watch sportscenter so I wouldn't know.
Will Claye going in the long jump and triple jump does not count as going in two events?
So what who gives a flying crap? Stop obsessing over this guy and realize he wont win any OG or WC medals in his lifetime.
Thanks
Dont you think he could have qualified in the marathon as well if he had run?

Oh sh*t.
This guys right, Rupp's not alone.

Yes, and probably the 1500 as well.
Wrong.
Will Claye made it in both the triple jump and long jump. All the fanboys need to remember that Will Claye is much more accomplished than Rupp. He's a world indoor champion and bronze medalist from Daegu last year. He's a much greater medal threat than Rupp is. He just turned 21 3 weeks ago.
Ashton Eaton qualified in ten events

Who cares? 99% of the people here are distance runners and therefore focus more on the distance races. No one cares if a long jumper is more accomplished than our best distance runner.
It's been a long 10 years following Galen but worth it!

FTW
There are others who also could have qualified in more than one event if they made the attempt: Lagat and Ritz come to mind...
Not to take anything away from Rupp, but sometimes a runner's decision to forego an event does not mean they were not good enough.
