They DQ a cancer survivor knowing that there will be public outcry and they'll eventually reinstate her. But in the meantime they find a way to get another Nike athlete into the final and make things that much more difficult for Adidas and New Balance athletes Uceny and Simpson.
Oh the power of Nike.
Schmidt got the spot because the DQ moved her to 5th place (an automatic qualifier). The brand of shoes she wears has nothing to do with it.

oh geez! Take it easy. This contact was joke... what a bunch of whiners. I have seen european and african races where people get literally pushed to the ground and the race goes on.
Should we start running the 1500m like a 400m??? ... and have everyone running in their own lane?
You still need to run fast to qualify... anderson is not the reason schmidt and others were outkicked by 5 to 15 meters.
Dude, this one athlete pushed (or tried to push) her way between two runners in front of her in both rounds at the trials. Morgan Uceny complained about her in round one and Amy Mortimer filed a protest against her in round two. She is either scrappy, desperate, uninformed or blatantly disrectful of the rules when it comes to racing.
It was her responsibility to run around the athletes in front of her, not push them out of her way and run between them. In both instances, she had plenty of ground to get herself out of her little box. Morgan was correct when she turned around during the race and told her to relax.
Regardless of how they race in Europe, the rules are in place for a reason and this athlete is obviously walking a very thin line between proper racing and DQ.
Schmidt is back on the startlist
Any coincidence that Alice Schmidt is a Nike athlete?
Absolutely asinine! Just like 2008 trials in women's 800m. Semi final 1 Teter (nike), Bennett (nike), Horn and Thomas all fall down. Nike protest, all four trippers reinstated into the final. Now there's a 12 woman final, ridiculous! Bennett gets 3rd, doesn't have the standard and Teter gets the spot.
I like Schmidt but she has no place in the final. What a joke is USATF/Nike.

Have you noticed that almost every runner at the trials is a Nike athlete? Pretty much anything that could happen will probably happen to a Nike athlete.
Great news for Tarmoh!! If Schmidt is in because they told her she was in & didn't want to 'untell' her, then same will apply to Tarmoh! She's in sure as shite! NOT.......but why not?!?

This is ridiculous. She is back in. With the same logic you are right, Tarmoh should be on the Olympic team so we don't upset her.
If Alice Schmidt's appeal was for something else then she can be in the final. If it is for the Anderson thing this is a bad decision.
I'll try and get some statement from USATF on why Schmidt is in the final.
And bless you Ruth, you are really too classy to be on these message boards ;-)
Off topic- we need more classy people like Ruth on this message board a fewer of the haters.
I have not seen replays, but watching the races live it looked like Robby Andrews pushed Jordan MacNamara much harder and with less justification than Anderson did in her heat. Wheating did a nice job of sweating it out and waiting for room to make a fair move.
I didn't see Anderson do anything to justify a DQ. I might have raised the yellow flag on Andrews (especially if MacNamara didn't advance), but probably not. I'd have to see it better than the TV angle.
In general, people who run from the back have to deal with the consequences of their decision not to go with the leaders They can't just assume that everyone is supposed to get the &*# out of the way so they can unleash their magnificent kick unimpeded. If you're behind 8 people when the kicking starts, it is your problem, not the problem of the people in front of you (because they ran faster).
Lagat showed a ton of class, for example, by not coming back in on Galen Rupp after he had drifted out. He could've cut Rupp off easily, but he was willing to face a real race.
Tactics, yes. Defending your space, yes. A little contact here and there... of course in a 1500. Intentionally cutting people off or pushing them aside... no.

I think that would be news to Uceny and Simpson.
I'm happy for Alice that she gets another chance, but I don't get why she gets advanced as part of a DQ that was overruled.
It would certainly suck to be Rowbury if the final result is (and it could be):
Uceny or Simpson
Simpson or Uceny
Schmidt
Rowbury
This makes no sense. Did Schmidt have anything to do with the incident that led to Anderson's original DQ? Schmidt is on the 800 team, so where is this possible pity vote coming from? She simply didn't have it in her 1500 heat, and has no business in the final.A timeline of events would be interesting to see - which runner(s) is/are filing these protests and petitions? The only one I know of is Mortimer, and she has never been advanced into the final. Weird, wild stuff.

So if Schmidt makes the team in the 1500m as well as the 800m will she do both you think, or drop one? More needless drama in women's racing. :(

I wouldn't single Rowbury out as the 1st loser in this contest. Based on how dominant and controlled she was in the first two rounds, Rowbury is a contender for the win.
Schmidt, on the other hand, wasn't capable of top 5 in the semis

The 800 /1500 double is not possible in London unless you want to run the prelims in the 800 and the semis in the 1500 on the same day
I hate pushy agressive runners. I don't think this is the first time Anderson has done this. Frankly I wish the DQ had stuck. I don't care if it didn't technically stop another runner from advancing. I think it is cheating. Keep your hands and elbows to yourself woman. Play fair.
For some reason, many runners think that European races are more aggressive and with more shoving. I did not find this to be true. When I raced in Europe, most of the time it was cleaner than some of the US races. Some coaches actually trained their runners to shove their way through, believing they had to learn to do this. In my mind, you need to know how to respond to this, but shouldn't be the instigator.

I believe the rules prohibit changing one's line on the final straightaway. Once Lagat was in the outside part of lane one, he, by rule, had to allow Rupp to keep the inside half of that lane.
