5.30 in PV for Eaton. Big career PR
And yet he has the class to continue into the PV. Class act.
Is there a video of this? Was the 10th hurdle like, clearly a mistake, or just him giving up? It seems like since recovering from a bad step or something and just bunny hopping a hurdle is something HS kids do all the time, it would have been an easy last ditch effort for Clay, even to get 4 or 500 points. I don't think Clay has the A standard yet this year, he hasn't finished a Dec in quite some time. He may be done, but he will go down in history as one of the best athletes in the history of US Track and Field. All Hail Bryan Clay!
He had actually been performing pretty well this year. He had not done all 10 events this year but had done well in I think four events in one in CA and 7 in another one. This is a pretty usual schedule for decathletes and he did not intend to compete in all of them.
The official results are now counting his hurdles performance. Makes the lack of a discus mark more glaring.
even with a decent disc mark, not sure he would have hit 8200...largely had a very poor dec
As a decathlete, you get less opportunities to compete. Also as a decathlete DNFs are more common than for most events.
So not having an A standard prior to the trials is the mistake.
man this sucks...if clay had run through the line and then actually put in a discus mark....damn....he kinda screwed him self by losing his mind
he's the best discus thrower in the world [decathlete] and if he knew for sure he's result counts he would have more passion to throw javelin and do pole vault... USATF sucks balls
Clay can look to other inspiration athletes like Fam to console himself.
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
Des Linden: "The entire sport" has changed since she first started running Boston.
Matt Choi was drinking beer halfway through the Boston Marathon
