What the hell happened to Kipchoge!? He's made every WC/Olympic team ever since 2003 I think. He should get wildcarded in. He's been the most consistent Kenyan 5K runner in terms of championships since his gold in 2003.

no
he can't win gold
it's not for him this year
but of course, i can't rule out 7'25/12'45 next year for him...
Rudisha said, he may break the World Record in London

The 800m is faster at attitude.
This is not indicative of anything.

Or maybe I've just been out of the loop for a while working a real job. No need to be Captain A-wipe about it.
good guy rudisha:
runs almost max effort, a fantastic performance, to give home fans a taste of what they don't get to see live in person.
you can't root against this guy

no
it appears 0.1s slower at nairobi
impress me with what 1'42.12 woud be at mexico

AK would be wise to select Konsecha (sp?) for the wild card.
Paul Koech better get the frickin wild card for the steeplechase after running the 3rd best time ever this year.
Agreed but AK is too stupid to get it.
I wish ndiku had done the 5k instead.
I respect your input, but I don't see that happening. He's getting older and even he's acknowledged that (he ran the 10K trials but didn't make it). Bekele probably can't run 7'25 anymore, 12'45 is still highly possible for him. I didn't say he was going to win gold, hell I think he'd have been lucky to have gotten top 5 this year.

If you can't figure this out for yourself you're an idiot
IT'S BECAUSE EL GUERROUJ IS A SEMITIC RUNNER!

Hmmm, there is a possibility that someone with the name David can be a Semitic. Many Jews in Kenya.

Semitic is not synonymous with Jewish. There are a lot of Semites in Ethiopia (speaking Tigre, Trigrana, Amharic, Ge'ez, and Harari. There are indeed the Beta Israel and Falasha Mura in Ethiopia, who are Jewish (well, it's complicated) but as far as I am aware therre are neither Jews nor semitic speakers in Kenya.
There was a world record tie at the Mexico city olympics, right? Does altitude matter over 800?
I think Koech and/or Soi are gold medal contenders in the 5K.
There is no such thing as an altitude world record.

not true. bob beamon set the altitude long jump record in mexico

no, because 5400' is not same as 7400' elevation
nairobi probably has neutral effect on 800 ( maybe 0.1s advantage )
iirc, when i did calculations for mexico, it had overall handicapping effect on 800, something like 0.5 - 0.75s ( i'll try & look up those calculations )
explanation is simple :
at nairobi, the hypoxic effect on aerobic system/less air resistance virtually cancel each other out
at higher altitude of mexico, the hypoxia predominates over less air-resistance overall handicapping the 800
absurdio ad reductum - do you think rudy wouda run 1'42.1 if they had built a track on top of mount everest ?
ventolin^3 wrote:iirc, when i did calculations for mexico, it had overall handicapping effect on 800, something like 0.5 - 0.75s ( i'll try & look up those calculations )
doubell 1'44.40 at mexico
ncaa tables for laramie ( nearest elevation )
(1'48.00/1'49.34)
wind-altitude for it
(52.7/52.2)
multiply those 2 by 1'44.40 -> basic
1'44.10
correction, mexico has handicap overall on 800m by about 0.3s
worth noting though, wilson made that race running solo from the gun in a suicidal 24.0 & led until home-stretch for 1'44.57
evening out the pace, starting with more circumspect nearer 25, wabbit to bell & above disadvantage, the sea-level time for him came out at
~ high-1'42/1'43.0
people have to watch & decide if this looked a high-1'42/1'43.0 talent that day :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwAaV0JarbYdoubell ran near perfect race, with more even splits & drafting to 500 ( albeit went bit wide on 2nd bend )
i'd have to say he was worth about high-1'43/1'44.0 that day at sea-level with pacing to bell & solo last 400 as is "classic" 800 tt

I'm going to go out on a limb and say El G is muslim just like 99% of Moroccans.
