Basically we are hoping that Galen Rupp is this Olympics' "unknown African".
Funny on many levels.
I put him behind K Bekele, Mo and Tariku. He could could beat Tariku if he makes the pace hard. Another person to watch is Tadesse. Tadesse could only help Rupp as he usually takes it out hard. There are 3 strong guys in the field(Rupp, Tadesse, Kiprop)and 3 kickers(Kenenise, Mo, Tariku). It would be in Rupp's best interest to work with the other two half marathoners because if it come down to a kick those three are fvcked.
Kenyans are not going to Medal in 10000m and 5000m, Rupp has an opportunity to sneak in and win a medal.
Don't doubt rupp he will medal...GO GALEN!!!
The Kenyans, The Ethiopians and the Englishman (Mo's not primarily running for Nike at the Olympics, he's running for England, remember) will watch each other and try to avoid wasting power at the front at all costs.
If Rupp got the guts and thinks he's in 26:30 shape he can pull a really early surprise surge (like that Romanian chick did in the Marathon 2008) and give himself half a laps lead before anyone else realize it's meant serious.
Then, unless they start to really co-op back in the field, and they probably wont, it'll be just Rupp against his own stamina for the gold! :-)
Except Rupp doesn't have the guts to run like that on olympic stage. I know its fun to dream about it and get your panties wet but chances of that happening is slim next to none. Rupp will do as he always done which is to follow the pack and wait for the big kick( basically make no sudden moves until farah makes his) and just hope that no one has enough speed/endurance to pass him down the backstretch on the final lap securing himself an olympic silver or bronze medal. That's pretty much al sal's plan for both of them. Not a bad plan I guess. Rupp could very well medal at this olympics. I know this sounds crazy but if he does, I won't be surprised. Calling it now.

The US 1-2-3 finished 23-32-30 seconds behind the Kenyan 1-2-3. That's about where they'll finish in London.
