It looked like Teg had enough to give Rupp a bit of a race. Given it's the trials though, Teg ran fine to me.

I don't know if this poster is trolling or not, but for the sake of argument, I'll address the topic at hand as if the original poster is genuinely calling Teg gutless. Obviously, this wasn't the tactical, run-to-qualify type of race that the majority of Olympic Trials finals are. This was a fast paced, negative split race run in terrible conditions. Also, in their effort to get Ritz the A standard, Rupp and Ritz dictated the pace of this race, so really, what should Teg have done instead? It's not like Teg was jogging, and comfortably drafting off the leaders in a a 10k that came down to the last 1 or 2 laps, this race went out in 13:56 in the pouring rain. So in my mind, anybody who can finish 1,2,3 in a race like this deserves to go to London (even though I was rooting for Bobby Curtis to make the team). The point is, short of fouling other runners, or taking PEDs, the goal is to make the Olympic team, period..no questions asked. But again, this was a fast pace for an OT final, so in no way was Teg's race gutless. But even if it was a slow ass, tactical race where Teg sat on the leader and never took the lead himself, while twirling his moustache and maniacally laughing that his evil plans had come to fruition, then sprinted to victory, then hey...that may not be pretty, that may not be keeping the pace honest, but it is qualifying for the 2012 Olympic team. At the end of the day however...he didn't do that. He ran 27:33 in the rain, and he can be proud of that while gearing up for London. Congrats to Rupp, Teg, and Ritz, and a great deal of respect goes out to everyone else in the race.
Did anyone else catch Ritz yelling back to Teg for assistance after Galen took off? Ritz must have been hurting. I was hoping Teg would stop drafting for a lap and help, but I.couldn't blame him for it. Gotta do whatever you can to make the big dance.

you guys are all wusses when it comes to races. I may not have qualified for olympics..I take the race out from the gun and kill it...even if it means I get beat. At least I can walk around knowing I had the balls to go hard.
after a statement like that, I'm pretty sure you are the biggest D-Bag loser on this site.
You take it from the gun and kill it? even if you get beat?
If you get beat you didn't kill it! Understand?
Just like Pre's 4th place finish at the Games was not "gutsy" it was stupid. He killed that race for sure.
Idiot!
Teg had no chance at catching Rupp and he knew it. He was in a race for 2nd and he took it.
I noticed Ritz look over his shoulder. But, since I don't read lips I don't know that he said anything.
On the other hand, I may have read Teg's lips correctly as he passed Ritz. He said, "Come on, the finish line is this way!"
It's all becoming clear now: you have no speed.

The Brojos love some contrived controversy. That's why put it up there.
Half of this is all just for provocation's sake, I realize, but I never understood this letsrun notion that your obligation in a race in anything other than to win or at least place well enough to achieve the goal, which in this case was to make the Olympics team. You don't owe any of the other competitors anything.
He looked completely trashed afterwards.
Looks like he gave it all
Teg had the A standard already, so any help he did in the pacing of Ritz to 27:45 would have actually hurt his chances of making the Olympic team. In a slow race, Teg could have finish behind Ritz in fourth place and still made the team.
Rupp was actually hurting his chances by helping Ritz too, but it was clearly a risk he was comfortable in taking to help a teammate. And I'm guessing that he and Al Sal thought it safer for Rupp to string out the pack too.

Yes, but do you DROP THE HAMMER?
"To give less than your best is to sacrifice the gift"...or something like that.
So the question is,
What would Pre have done had he been in Teg's shoes?
There's nothing ballsy about running like a dumb*ss.

This ^
It is amazing that so many people cannot understand this. It is like complaining about a basketball team that wins by taking all layups - they aren't "ballsy" because they don't shoot from half court.
The object is to win (or in the case of a qualifying race, to qualify). Everything else is BS.
Teg shoulda Lomonged the last 800, he would be a hero for sure.

The question is... are you really that bored that you come up with this drivel and then keep hitting refresh over and over to look at the responses? Do you really find that amusing? My four year old finds better ways to entertain himself...
Yep, Teg is as gutless as other "sitters" ........ like Coe, Ovett, Yifter, et al. (rolls eyes)

Yes, thanks for the response. I feel better now. You did exactly what I wanted. Ha Ha, I win.
Teg ran a very smart and tactical race. The only runner good enough in the field to help ritz qualify and still make the team was rupp. He is clearly 30 plus seconds faster than any american at 10k
Top three go.. Not trying to PR or even win the race. Top three go! Enuf said!
