No a 'B' standard can only go if there are no 'A's at all
Not quite correct.
If a 'B' beats the only 'A' in the field the 'B' goes over the 'A'.

Is that the best you can do? you can have a do over if you need it. We'll wait for you. Were you edumucated in the USA too?
How many U.S. men signed up for the trials have met the Olympic A standard in the 10k?
100 percent of them.
So, quality wise this is the worst 10k field in the history of the event?
I would bet a dollar on Rothstein - she recently ran 33 flat on a rolling/hilly road coarse on a hot day in NYC. On a cool night on a track in a big meet...I could see her running 12 secs per mile faster.
Her 2:29 (road, obviously) marathon translates to 31:52 per mcmillan.

Well then, that's the same as for the women's 10,000m
Does anyone know why Rhines scratched? Injury?

Too many fleas
It will be interesting to see whether people go for the A standard and risk blowing up or just let the race unfold and try to win some $ by placing. I think we may be surprised by 2 or 3 women getting the A standard at the trials.

So you're not cheering for an American to run well? What are you some Nazi?

would they still go?? wrote:Since they are the only ones with the A standard, would Amy Hastings,Janet Cherobon-Bawcom, and Lisa Uhl still go to the olympics even if they finished dead last, if the others failed to get the A standard before the olympics?
yes.
I'm surprised Magdalena Boulet isn't running this instead of the 5000. A lot more bodies in the 5000. Making the team at 10 is much easier.
What if someone w/o the A gets it in the trials race?

That will be great.
Amy Yoder-Begley did it last time and I wouldn't be shocked to see Rothstein do the same thing.
If Shalane takes it out fast, which she might be inclined to do just to show that she's the boss, Rothstein just needs latch onto her and hang on. Of course Shalane may take it out slow to favor Uhl but that seems like it would go against the grain for Shalane.
How about Katie McGregor? She's been fourth at the trials the last two years. Can she finally end her misfortunes and make this 10K team?

You make me proud to be an immigrant!
Well, you can choose your battles.
USA needs more depth for the W 10.
