The Top of Utah course profile is basically a diagonal line straight down. It makes St. George look flat.
There's a reason he wasn't at the 2012 trials...there's no way he could've qualified on a legit course.

The Spartan warriors were also homosexuals and pedophiles.
I'm tired of athletes getting slammed by ppl & media for bravado & even boasting. Part of athletics is extreme confidence. But athletes always have to fake it & meekly express their abilities for success. It was great when a fairly prime Gabe Jennings just said he would win- even when he didn't. Yea, he's more accomplished, but I'd still love to hear confidence from athletes.

There is confidence and then there is lunacy. This guy saying he can run 2:09 and qualify for the Olympics is suprememe over confidence bordering on lunacy. Saying he can break the current WR by over 3 minutes is not confidence, it is the ravings of a lunatic.
You were probably trolling though.

He also qualified for the 2008 Olympic trials in distance running and set the course record at the 2007 Top of Utah Marathon with a time of 2:16:38.)"
Is he the fastest anyone has ever been while working full time? That is pretty insane.
phamphee you silly religious fundamentalist, it is no way the fastet anyone has ever been while working full time.
Not even close
Running Times profiled Sergio Reyes a few months ago as well as Wardian and
They also had a list of full time workers who had qualified for Marathon Trials in 2012 as well as what their jobs are. The articles are below but the list of other qualifiers is not with it.

This guy should start training with Jason Rahm. They could do great things together.
Every marathon this guy has run is a net downhill course. St. George(2000 ft), Salt Lake City(600 ft) and Top of Utah (1100 ft).
My prediction, he is going to design a course on the side of a mountain and run down as fast as he can.
So now Runner's World just lurks on LetsRun for news.
For as much as we rag on Runners World, this is just a beautiful paragraph:
Call ran his marathon PR in 2007 at the Top of Utah Marathon, which has a net elevation loss of 1,081 feet and an average gradient of -0.8%. That is, it's a downhill, point-to-point course ineligible for record purposes. Call's run there qualified him for the 2008 Olympic Marathon Trials, where he recorded a DNF.
Delusional. Must be the bath salts.

This is not bravado or boasting. This is posing. He's acting like he's capable because saying he is capable satisfies his brain. It's the same with that Jason Rahm guy. For a brief time, he was chasing Olympic glory simply because he said he was.
You need to start running on a certain level before you can start boasting because to boast you need to back it up. Derek Clayton was mentioned earlier on this thread, he used to walk right up to his competitors, call them garbage, and tell them he was going to run them into the ground. And then he went out and did just that in world record time. If this guy on is on that level then he'll get my support for acting like that.

all he needs to do is start posting here and it's a done deal.

Kidding right? This is not confidence, this is delusion. This is not good natured smack talk, this is total disrespect for the sport.
This is like when your fat cousin thinks just because you ran a 4:05 mile that he could too.
Jesus.
Top of Utah marathon has a ridiculous profile.

But a course record is a course record.

Good Lord. So what's 2:16 on that worth on a flat marathon? High 2:20s?
Interesting article. This guy definitely has a lot of talent, however, 2:00 does seem rather ridiculous, especially considering his age. If he were performing this well at 18, maybe it would be a different story. But he does seem amazingly talented. The Top of Utah Marathon, where he ran a 2:16 on did have a net downhill ( -1318 ft and + 237) but was also at an average of about 5000 ft elevation(http://www.marathongis.com/products/tou/profile.pdf). According to
, a 2:16:38 on the top of Utah Marathon would be equivalent to 2:10:22.at sea level, and a 2:10:22 with -1318 ft and 237 ft would be the same as 2:12:02.9 on boston ( 459 uphill and 783 downhill).
So a 2:16:38 at The Top of Utah Marathon would be worth a 2:12 at Boston. Thats pretty speedy, but still far from 2:00. I would say he may be able to go 2:09 with some competition and with the excitement of Boston.
It sounds like he has a muscular physique, maybe he would really shine even more at middle distance, like the 1500, or trying the steeplechase.
However, even with a full time job, he should be able to find time to train, especially if he is training for middle distance. It would be harder to find enough time to train if he were focusing on the marathon.

Methinks your calculations might be a bit off. There's no way that the Top of Utah course is slower than Boston by four minutes.
You saw this every trials up until 2012: guys (and girls) would run huge PRs at St. George and other Utah marathons, then show up to the trials and bomb. Their second best marathons were always significantly slower than their qualifying time. The effect of altitude is negligible when dealing with a downhill course.
If this guy shows up to Chicago this year and runs 2:16 (not likely, since it's been five years since his PR), I'll give him credit. Heck, if he wants to compete in a road race and run a fast time He's found his niche in Spartan races (that's all he does now:
http://athlinks.com/myresults/113181859/Hobie-Call.aspx), so he should keep his mouth shut and keep running them. Leave the sub-2:00 marathons to guys like Gerry L.
How can anyone who runs that fast 2:16 - be so ignorant about what it takes to run sub 2?
Seriously, that's a talented runner, but a complete idiot of a person.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
