I hope it's Lel. I like that guy.

This is true. Current odds on who the brilliant minds at AK will select:
Asbel Kiprop 30%
Bro. Colm O'Connell 25%
I'll Have Another 20%
Tergat 7%
Wanjiru 5%
Levins 5%
E Mutai 5%
P Makau 2%
G Mutai 1%
I laughed.

I have just spoken to Isaiah Kiplagat. I met him at Nairobi club having lunch and he told me that the man would be GM.

NativeSon, you know meeting Kiplagat or any of those Ak official is like meeting the President! Unless you have just broken the world record, it is close to impossible to sit down with these guys and chat. Anyway, Geoffrey is the man. The injury he had was minor and he recovered before Boston so he should be ready to go as he demonstrated in Canada with a 27:42 10km. He is due to run a 10k in US this month(the same he won last year 27:19). Emanuel after a bout with Typhoid earlier in the year is below his real self. He should be recovered by spring next year.
IF this turns out to be true...wow,just wow.
Hoping the alternate would be G. Mutai.

POD. Hilarious.
Although I'm pretty sure they might try to get Lornah Kiplagat back in the mix.

Mutai deserves it, but he and AK have major beef. Its going to be makau.
Agreed about Mutai, who after being snubbed by AK has clearly already taken a good hard look at the fall marathon of his choosing. Even IF he was picked, he might not go for it at this point.
Guys, think back to when I CORRECTLY PREDICTED the original selection:
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=4543950&page=2
"I think that AK has been consistent in their statements that proven success in unpaced races is important for them. They know from long painful experience that the best time-trialist isn't always going to win a championship race.
For that reason, I think that KIRUI is in. Repeat WC is hard to ignore, and as I've mentioned before AK selectors have a habit of giving the nod to previous winners even without quick times - remember Eric Wainana. And Kirui has times, too.
I think that KIPSANG running courageously and taking the win against a stacked field (including many of the Kenyan shortlist as well as international comp) can't be denied a spot.
The last spot is tough. I would put it down to Mosop and Mutai - both ran ridiculous course-record marathons in spring and fall, 2011. Mosop at least put down a solid time in Rotterdam, while Mutai DNFd Boston. Also, I think that AK has had some mild clashes with AK over running in their camps, racing abroad, etc - my sense is that the selectors will be glad to be given an excuse to leave him of the team, and a DNF makes it easy (if wrong) for them to say he hasn't proven fitness. So I say MOSOP gets it.
As for the alternate spot, Mutai isn't going to want it. He will regroup and take aim at a massive fall performance and isn't going to plan training around an alternate spot. I somehow doubt Makau would either - he can defend his Berlin title and WR for huge money - much better prospect than being alternate. E Mutai unfortunately underperformed in London. I have a suspicion that AK would bend their own rules to put LEL on the team given his pretty undeniable comeback, and that he'd take it. The guys has been added to fields at the last minute and performed before, and especially on the exit side of career I think would be more than willing to leave his name in the hat in case of injury to the others.
SO, I'm calling KIRUI, KIPSANG, MOSOP for the team, and taking long odds predicting LEL as alternate. We'll see!"
I'm going to stand by my guess from April and say that AK once again breaks their own rules, and names LEL!
They have named Emmanuel Mutai as the replacement and Paris winner Stanley Biwott as reserve even though he was never mentioned before.
Really don't know why they did not select Georffery Mutai or even Martin Lel or even Jonothan Maiyo
Stupid selection
Yes it is that. E. Mutai and Biwott.
"Emmanuel Mutai was among the six marathoners we named in the provisional team. We did not want to go outside that list, and we think Mutai is best placed for that assignment," Athletics Kenya secretary general, David Okeyo, told reporters on Tuesday.
"He (Mosop) has had persistent Achilles tendon injury and we all thought it would heal. But he wrote a letter to us withdrawing from the team after it became apparent it would not heal in time for the Games."

I for one, would love to see a race between Ryan Hall and Moses Mosop in their current shape. Maybe a warrior dash or something similar.
At least we have verifiable evidence that Mosop is really injured; as opposed to wild, Drudge Report-type rumors.

Yeah, any of those three would have made sense.
Typical of AK to go to someone who was never on their "shortlist" in the first place. Whatever. This is starting to look like a repeat of 2004. Eric Wainana, anyone?
More Wainaina bashing!!!! The Guy performed well in all 3 Olympic marathons. Atlanta 1996 Olympic marathon winning a bronze medal, and fairing much better than his 2 other countrymen Boston marathon runner up and 4th placer Eziekel Bitok & Lameck Aguta. In Sydney 2000 Olympic Marathon he won a Silver Medal, with fellow countrymen Boston & Rotterdam winners that year, Elijah Lagat & Kenneth Cheruiyot not even being able to finish. In Athens 2004 Olympic marathon he finished in a respectable 7th, ahead of a certain World Best holder Paul Tergat, and the other selected athlete Sammy Korir did not even Start. So of course Wainaina was a real let down for Athletics Kenya! Your comments don't add up! Wainaina was a true Championship warrior and earned his place!
