Mutai deserves it, but he and AK have major beef. Its going to be makau.

I'd take Makau over Geoffrey.
Let's not forget that Makau beat Geof in Rotterdam and Berlin 2010.
But if AK seemed to be saying that what happened in 2011 wasn't as relevant as what has happened in 2012, then they REALLY wouldn't care about what happened in 2010. Following that logic.

I don't think they will pick Makau because Makau blasted them after they picked Mosop, Kipsang and Kirui, leaving him out inspite of an earlier promise that he would be in the team for breaking the world record. If they have to choose between Makau and Geoffrey, they will go with Geoffrey.
Wouldn't they pick E Mutai since he actually finished the race they used to judge them in April while G Mutai and Makau dropped out of their races?
I have no idea if this source is any more or les reputable than the first...

Martin Lel beat E Mutai in London. Maybe they should send the 3-time London and 2-time NYCM champ. He would have an excellent chance to medal.

Lel was not among the six named by AK as the group from which the top three would be chosen from.
enough with the AK bashing.
lord knows they haven't cornered the market
on knucklehead officials.
I said before Mosop and his agent would be out for a bigger payday. why would they not be? he'll take a few more seconds off the Chicago record, angle straight for the course bonus payoff...
truth is many of the best current athletes cannot participate and it is getting ridiculous to exclude them. AA qualifying standards like <8:05 steeple, <13 5000, <27 10000, <2:06 marathon would make sense.
Based on the criteria they were using, it seems like Emmanuel Mutai would be the pick. It was all about what happened in April.
yes its going to be emmanuel.
He only broke the world record.
That's what is seems like. Given that, though, I think G Mutai should have dropped out of Boston at 10k and flown to London and run there. He obviously had nothing to lose if he did.

Abundance of incompetence is no reason to excuse incompetence.
They are going to pick Kaki. That is why he dropped out of the 800 against Rudisha. He was saving his energy.
This link is Dutch, I think, but I'm reposting it for the bad-ass photo of Mosop.

Marathon Record holder who else ?!?!?!?!
2:05 in New York & no rabbits. That trumps a time trial WR to me, if we're talking about a predictor for who would do best in a championship-style race.

I don't disagree with this, but I think that Athletics Kenya is more concerned about who is currently healthy and fit. G. Mutai was having nagging foot problems earlier this year, and his training was apparently not going very well. His DNF at Boston didn't do much to allay concerns, despite suggestions that he simply had problems with heat and hydration. He did run a strong 10K a couple of weeks ago, but I'm not sure that he's done enough to demonstrate his fitness for the Olympic marathon.
Unlike a lot of people who post on this site, I respect the ability of AK's selection committee to come up with the best team from among the various candidates. The committee is knowledgeable about marathoning, and very familiar with the candidates and their recent training, health, fitness, and suitability for the particular race and likely conditions. E. Mutai, Makau, and G. Mutai are all terrific athletes who have had their ups and downs. (This year, unfortunately, they've all had some major downs.) I'm pretty confident that AK will make a reasonable choice.
I have just spoken to Isaiah Kiplagat. I met him at Nairobi club having lunch and he told me that the man would be GM.
Okay, I am kidding but I hope they pick Geoffrey.
Emmanuel in my opinion has no chance.
Lel is out of the question.
