my god chesrek is an ill disciplined runner, his first 200 was his fastest 200 and he did first hundred all on the 3rd lane of the curve.

Lol Cheserek sat at the start for a second or two for some reason
pretty lame really. maybe a few of them will go 3:58 in college and will never be heard from again!
And your claim for fame???
Right, go away.

yes, that hurt him greatly....I was wondering what in the world he was doing...
whats amazing is that montoya went from 7-8th to 1st in the last 300. with the way he was moving that last 300 and mainly that last 100, he's probably in sub 4 shape
So Montoya effectively ran a full eight-second PR, as his best going in was a 4:07 1600. And he has more left. He had a big kick in Arcadia 3200, but Zeineselassie matched it. Today nobody was going to touch him.
I agree if he return with no changes to training, he is capable of WELL under 4:00 in a pro race next year.
Bernie stayed patient along the rail and moved up when someone left the barn door open...that put him a little closer to the leaders to spring and spring he did moving out of the box nicely and showing he still had some left in the tank after 1500 meters.

This was a terrific boys high school Mile, and Montoya ran a smart race - #3 U.S. performance in HS-only competition - only Jim Ryun (1965) & Lukas Verzbicas (2011) faster.
Go Mile!
http://bringbackthemile.com/homeAmazing how great the results when the guys take it out!
We need Sprintgeezer to give us Cheserek's split coming out of the blocks. I got it at 2.1 seconds. What a race by those kids, really impressive all the way through.
Wonder if Bernie is Benny (Adams State - mid 1970's)Montoya's son?
man edward made us all think he'd go sub 4 LOL
which of these guys will be the best miler in college?
Is Bernie Montoya American Indian he looks Navajo.

wild and wonderful wrote:Burcham is a Beast. Amazing he was able to beat Kidder who has more speed. I was fortunate to watch Burcham run a solo 8:57 a couple weeks ago. He looks like he is cut out for the 5k and 10k.
Unfortunately, I didn't get to see Kidder run this year but I am guessing he sat and kicked at the state meet in the 1,600.
Is that the fastest mile ever for both WV and Ohio?
Um no...... Burcham went 3:46 last year. Not surprised at all.
I didn't say I was surprised. I said Kidder has a little more 800 speed. My opinion is that Kidder could not stay with Burcham past 1,600 but Burcham could not stay with kidder under 1,600.

Old School Coach wrote:Chese's no where close to Webb's record. Ain't gonna happen this year.
He's got another year of eligibility?!? I thought that Kenyan was already 19.
Chererek shouldn't even be eligible to run in these meets. He is not an American citizen. And, he was imported by unethical coaches looking to import a professional runner, at the high school level no less, to enhance their high school's prospects in their local meets. Simply pathetic. His age? Don't even get me started. Age cheating in African countries is so epidemic, they have taken to using bone development tests to weed out age cheaters. Look up the record on Salomon Haile's age discrepancies for an egregious example of age cheating similar to Ches.
Why did Cheserek not run at the gun? He stayed at the starting line for like 2 seconds, and then sprinted the first 100? He could've run 4:05 or something if he didn't do that.
