Webb has nothing else besides trying to run fast ...HS jock, and a college dropout. Dude needs to get himself in a JC, CC or votech school and get some skills.

Pretty sure Webb finished his degree at George Mason.

In the entire history of the USOT, including all heats & semis, there has been exactly one runner who went under the 2012 Oly "A" of 3:35.50 -- Steve Scott in 1980.
Webb has just about zero chance of getting the "A" at the trials, and the racers who already have the "A" (currently six) will know that it is not in their best interest to have a fast race, because with a slow race they may make the team even from 4th place or further back.
You are welcome.
Andrews makes it sound like Webb is running longer/faster in workouts than him and so it might just be that Webb can't recover from those super hard workouts for his races like he could in '07.
"Sprintgeeezer" is a pretty darn good hijack attempt, I must say.
I'm flattered. Again.
Webb > AJ Acosta.
Suck on it, AJ Nation.
Webb is back baby!

I think that you are almost certainly correct that Webb will not get an OG "A" at the trials, but the difference this year is that there is no chasing the GO standard after your event. Since there will be a lot of guys who don't have the A in the heats and at least a few in the final, I would hope that a few of them will get together and trade the lead for the first two laps in an attempt an A. (This is more likely to happen in the final if more then one guy gets in without the A).
But they will likely just sit and kick and give themselves no chance of going to the OGs.
That's crazy! Lagat has 2 olympic medals and has run 3:26. Lagat has always had a better kick and better speed.
Webb has never come close to winning a medal in worlds, let alone making an olympic final. He ran a handful of good diamond league meets. He couldn't make the olympic team in 08 and ran terrible finals in worlds in 05 and 07.
What is this talent you're talking about?
-----------------------------------------------------------
3:53 HS record holder - there have been alot of great HS milers and Webb is the GOAT
3:46 American record holder - there have been alot of great American milers and Webb is the GOAT
What in the heck is up with this guy? I mean, I know he was injured or something and he's getting older. But he's not THAT old. He's 29. Maybe he doesn't have a 3:30 in him anymore. But I would think he could hit 3:35 after multiple attempts. Geez. So long, Webb. Should have moved up dude.
words for you to live by

So what is next for Webb? Will he make another coaching change to stir things up??
Will someone explain to me his decision to leave Salazar ? He beat Rupp on a few occasions and he seemed to Coach him back to great 5k Shape. So why did he leave get slow again then try to get back to 1500m shape which he has not been in for 4 years now or so ? [quote]Julio Jones wrote:

There's a BIG difference in the talent level needed to run 3:30-3:31, and the level needed to run 3:26.
Webb might have been there with El Guerrouj and Lagat in pure talent at one point, and he was on pace to match El Guerrouj's progression at one point. We'll never know, because that talent wasn't fully developed before Webb ran out of time. The time lost due to the Michigan debacle and the 10K debacle ended the prospect of Webb ever getting in the mile/1500 to where El Guerrouj, Lagat, or Cram got. The real issue might be coaching/managing (I'm not pointing my fingers at Raczko, who got Webb back from the Michigan debacle) rather than talent in Webb's case.
Webbs golden years where with Raczko. That is where he had his greatest success.

True, maybe he isn't as much of an idiot as people said. Back then everyone was saying Webb was so talented that anyone could have coached him to 3:46.
would have been in the thick at ncaa's
Listen guys I was at the meet yesterday and watched Alan a lot. He literally spent upwards of 2.5 hours warming up, it was almost ridiculous. I'm not sure if the guy needs to be doing all that before the race. I was next to Vig during the race as well. After a slow first 200 and 400, he was cursing a lot and saying how it was bs and stuff. Almost seemed like failure from the start. If he and Alan are gonna make such an effort to go and race for the A standard, why not get a decent pacer?? How hard is it to get a guy to go 56-58 at least for the first 800? Alan, bro, if you wanted me to continue my season I could've paced you through in that.
Yeah I really don't understand this business of trying to get the A standard but then going out at a slower pace. If the pace is too slow, you should have gotten yourself a pacer in there. Hell, just sack up and take it out yourself. If you're really a threat to make the Olympic team you should be able to go and attack a race, not just expect to ride the train to a fast time.
But then again, I don't see the point in trying to make the Olympics if Vig is trying to resurrect Webb. Webb's whole problem when he was with Salazar was that he would go out and try to force himself to a good time when he wasn't ready, which killed his confidence. Picking up the scraps of a few months of training and trying to build an Olympic performance out of that just tells me that A)Vig is an idiot or B)Vig basically asked Alan "what do you want to do?" Alan answered with "Olympics" and now he's doing everything he can to get him there.
After Webb fails to make the team I expect him to either retire(unlikely), go through this same shitty cycle again(likely), or finally get his head on straight for a long patient buildup to setting the track on fire next summer. I so want to see the latter happen but I just don't know if Webb has the confidence to be that patience.
