There is a difference between having a PR that is slightly slower and a PR that is almost 40 seconds slower, you fool. Lomong is a 3:32 1500 runner and has untapped potential in the 5k. Levins is a far, far cry from Lamong. Forget Billy Mills. That was in the fvcking sixties, man. It's not the same sport anymore. Yes, obviously races are usually won by who ever can close the fastest over the last 800, but the only ones in contention with a half mile to go are the ones who can survive the surges from 5k-1k out, and that usually takes sub 27 strength.
Let's look at the last 4 olympic 10k finals:
2008- won by Bekele, the world record holder, PR of 26:17. 2nd place was sihine with a PR of 26:39. 3rd was kogo, with a PR of 26:35.

2004- won by Bekele. 2nd was sihine, 3rd was tadese, who had a pr of 26:37.
2000- won by Geb, a world record holder, PR of 26:31. 2nd was Tergat, also a world record holder, with a PR of 26:27. 3rd was Mezgebu, with a PR of 26:49.
1996- won by Geb, 2nd was Tergat. 3rd was Hissou, also a world record holder and PR of 26:38.
The slowest medalist is 26:49, in case you missed it, which is right where Rupp is. But please, continue to make an ass of yourself by telling us all about Levins's medal chances. I'll remember to bump this come August.
