What other song has a history like this one?
The song itself was never even finished

I am in complete agreement with your conclusion. And that was Wild Cherry that flunked out to that one hit wonder.

Ban this uninformed Obama voter. KC and the Sunshine Band had hits like "That's the Way (I Like It)", "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty", "I'm Your Boogie Man", "Keep It Comin' Love", "Give It Up", and "Please Don't Go".
Proof that stupidity contributes to political threads, too....
Wet behind the ears wrote:Good answer. They're probably still touring on that one song.
Please Come to Boston - Dave Loggins
The "one hit wonder" threads always get a set of legs, an then die off because idiots a) never "quantify" what makes up a "one hit wonder", and b) douchebags, who remember only one song, start naming bands that have no place in a "one hit wonder" thread.
I think VH1 even had them as the top 1 hit wonder. They opened a concert w/ "The Final Countdown" then played it as their encore.
Well, if VH1 says they were OHWs, then it must be true...

Hey poster, yeah poster
Cursing at your wife
You're a discontented runner
With a regimented life
I've no doubt you dream about
The times you'll never run
But I wish someone had've talked to me
Like I wanna talk to you
I've been to Turkey and Albuquerque
And anywhere I could run
I joined the team up in Oregon
And we fartleked in the sun
But I ran out of places
And friendly faces
Because I had no natural speed
Oh I've bought all the merchandice
But they'd never sponsor me

My pick, Billy Ray Cyrus for "Achy, Breaky Heart" got him a TV series and the siring of Miley.
So far I've seen nothing to convince me that the OP was wrong about Cyrus.
The typo in the OP (siring not signing) is also priceless.
The Wonders
"That Thing You Do"
The question was most mileage from the one-hit wonder song, not just listing one hit wonders:
The answer: Modern English - I'll stop the world and melt with you - - played in every sappy teen love movie, was popular in the early 80s college party scene, lots of mileage and still played.
