Is there really a concern that someone will run a 3:52 mile here and 3:37 en route, not hit 3:35.50 in the 14 month window and then place top three at the US Trials but be denied a spot on the Olympic team?
That's the fear, that's the complaint, right?
There's a 1500 in New York next week.
They can set up a race on the June 16th weekend.
Also, It can be done at the Trials.
There was Oxy, Doha, Hengelo, Rabat, Swarthmore, all of 2011.
Don't know why the B heat at Pre should be a 1500.
You hit the nail directly on the head....The Pre Classic as well as the Diamond League in general are about 2 things, entertainment for the fans and money for the athletes. If the athlete still needs a standard, he should find a race where he could run the standard, not go to a race that is offering big $$ to show up and then hope it can get changed to a 1500.
Furthermore, do you remember back a few weeks ago when you (JO BROS) complained about the OXY meet, specifically the women's 800 heats. That meet is a high performance meet, created to help sub-elites/elites get the Trials and Olympic standards and in that regard the meet was a huge success. This would have been a great meet for these folks to compete in as you can not say a field with Jeff See, Nick Symmonds, G. Heath, Taylor Milne, Nate Brannen etc. is not good enough to hit the standards.
Every race has its purpose, and this mile will be exciting and entertaining, which is what the sport needs to gain acceptance.
