Now personally I've always thought those were a little weird, but they aren't frowned upon by society.

Yes I have heard of them, and have in fact been to one, as I have a daughter and her school had a 5th grade father/daughter dance, we was 10. She is now 17. If she now came to me and complained that she did not get asked to the High School prom, would I suggest "take me, it'll be just like in 5th grade"? No way. I would try and figure out a way for her to get a date (call a buddy, ask him to ask his kid to take her), tell her it's ok for girls to ask guys out, or if that did not work then help her just accept it, it's not the end of the world, etc. Do any of the responsible things adults are supposed to do for kids.
