I loathe Jay Z.
But he has way more money than I do. I'd say he knows something about money I don't.
He's a successful businessman. Successful Businessmen are often interviewed about the economy.
"I'm not a businessman, I'm a Business...Man!"
As others above have alluded to, he is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the country...
Your comment is akin to asking "why did the interview Donald Trump about the economy, its like asking Mitt Romney about real estate" or some other such nonsense.
umm, maybe because he knows how to create wealth, weather for himself or others. id say he knows how to generate cash flow, and thus, how to be successful in an economy.
if you have as much common sense/street smarts as Jay Z, you could have figured out that answer on your own.
Hey, I'll tell you what. You can get a good look at a butcher's ass by sticking your head up there. But, wouldn't you rather take his word for it?
No, I mean is, you can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a butcher's ass. No, wait. It's gotta be your bull...

This made me spit coffee on my laptop. Thanks, jerk.
Little known fact, Jay Z has a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago. He's also advised former Fed chair Greenspan and current chair Bernanke.
Back in 2000, he wrote and excellent OpEd in the New York Times arguing that the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act in 1999 would have very negative consequences in the not too distant future. In less than a decade, he would be proven right on all counts. When Jay Z talks about the economy, you listen.
The better question would be: Why wouldn't CNN interview Jay Z about the economy?
BAWLAH
Cultural figures are experts on politics and the economy. Fact.

I'm not sure what's so funny about that...you know Jay Z, amongst others in his industry, likes to make it rain on them hos.
With Soledadd O'Brien as an anchor what do you expect. MTV news and Spring Break updates to national news. Who could be next Eliot Sp....oh wait!
Because Jay Z is a successful businessman who knows what it takes to succeed.
Last time I checked, Mr. Z was not Flagpole-certified as an economist.

Mr. Z is actually someone who hires people. So, arguably, what he says and thinks might be more relevant than any economist or even the President. They only have an indirect affect on employment at best. Jay Z is directly influential on employment.
"Arguably".
If you're going to interview Jay Z about the economy, then why not interview Elmo about nuclear physics?
And then you can interview Beyonce about the impact on the rial due to American and EU sanctions on Iran.
Or CNN could interview OJ about the American criminal justice system.
