Boy you are one naturally talented MFer. If you ran HALF of what a normal high schooler did, you would be 10x better.

Kept progressing through college. Run 1 to 3 times a week now after quitting after college 2 1/2 years ago. Don't miss it one bit. It was great while it lasted.

Played soccer in the fall until senior year. Trained in the winter during junior year. Got ambitious and tried to have a big first/senior year of cross and got injured. Senior year times come with a lot of cross training.

how did you manage to run 4:12 1600m but a 2:02 800m? i ran a 4:29 and 2:03 in high school
Haha, yeah I wondered that too. Only ever ran one open 800m, and that was after I PRed big with a 4:23. I ended up closing in 2:02 high when I ran 4:12, so I'm sure I could run faster.

Bad coaching. Did not run much in the winter (10-15mpw). Too much emphasis on speed. My two nearly equally talented teammates (same basic HS PRs) went on to good college programs; one was a multiple All American and ran 4:06 for the mile, 8:13 for the 3k, and sub 14 in the 5k. The other was a multiple All American, 2:14 marathoner and made several OT Marathons and a WC Marathon team. I had terrible coaching in college, overtrained like an idiot and topped out at 8:58 for 3k and 15:45 for 5k. Bummer for me...
The 80s were a terrible waste of talent. I'm glad people are figuring it out now. Do the higher mileage and don't overdo the speed work. Keep the easy runs real easy and have fun. If you don't run well after all that, you're just not talented...

Overall, my mileage didn't change too much during high school. However, the coaching did and, as shown by my own progression, it was for the better. Senior year I finally started getting some speed in my legs. It was also during that year that I developed something of a bitch kick.
I just finished freshman year of college and after a steady buildup of mileage throughout the season, I am shooting for 70-80 mpw this summer.

I have no idea why I improved so much sophomore year in the mile and couldnt run any faster until after high school.
Ran 15:30/32:30 in college and built up to 95-100 MPW.
Similar enough to my progression that there's no point in including my specifics. Instead of a 1600 block I had an 800 block though. Ran 2:05 as a sophomore and never lowered that mark, though once I got to college I moved up in distance and so rarely raced it.
Frosh: 15 mpw 2:09/4:55
Soph: 20 mpw 2:06/18:35(injured and only ran a few races that year)
Jr: 20 mpw 2:02/4:42/17:20
Sr: 20 mpw 2:00/4:35/16:40
Throughout HS my highest mileage week was 45, which I did on my own during a summer base. Did it once, got injured a week later. I wish I went to a better program to run more mileage, but at the same time, I was injured pretty often even off low stuff. All runners ran the same mileage, and our long run was 5 miles.
Don't listen to directions well, so here's the whole ball of wax, progression and regression.

That IS half--at least half--of what a "normal" (or at least median) American high school kid does. Trust me on this. High school programs in which boys average more than five miles a day (for six days a week) are in the minority.
Mileage given is during base/long workout season, not during racing season. I also didn't keep a good log until winter of junior year (got a free paper log for xmas)

Don't know my mileage PR.
Lots of hs kids would improve even without increasing mileage just due to puberty.
