Screw Blake vs Bolt.
Kiplagat vs Kiprop is a way better rivalry.

The big boys come out to play. Showing once again, we (US runners) will not even be a footnote in London.
Unless Silas/Asbel take each other to the ground. Centro GOOOOOOLD!!!!!

Ha ha ha!
That's an honest observation. Kip and Kip might bring each other down literally. Dangerous! I'd cry!
I vwas waiting for Kiprop to succumb but he momentarily "stopped" to forestall what would have been his calamitous "end".
As soon as he changed his rhythm, he wasnt going to regain it and Kiplagat was the beneficiary.
I root for Kiprop. It is such a joy to watch him glide.
Kiplagat is bad! We need him to push Kiprop.
I am happy for bethwell Be-rr-gen. He should be the third guy and probablt Chepseba too.
Komen needs to get injured in two weeks. He'll be second in the trials and then, he'll bomb out in the semis. His time is gone.
Yes, this rivalry is way up there with bolt/blake and Vivian/Meseret.

Just what you people said last year about the WCs.
Dude Silas Kiplagat is a little bitch. Whether he tried to clip Asbel or not is questionable. But then he proceeded to cut off Asbel at the finish! I'm not lying, watch the race here.

Kiplagat raced well and wiley on that home straight.
Iv'e been angled out on the home straight before and didn't like it.
It wasn't that severe.
I do fault him for bumping Kiprop's arm as he went by as Kiprop was holding his line.
Good racing experience. Nice little rivalry heading into the Olympics.
Would Kiplagat get a DQ in the OLY games for this bump? Distance running at the top is getting rough. I guess there is always contact at the world level.
Odd are Kiprop woulda won this race without the bump.
I can see Kiprop easily going 3:27. Well, not easily. But you know what I mean. If anything I see his mentality as holding him back. He seems to lack a certain killer instinct albeit demeanors can be misleading.
Kiprop definitely had this race won if it weren't for the bump. He might have won anyway if Silas didn't move out to cut him off the last 40 meters.
I think Kiprop is quickly becoming one of the best 1500 runners of all time. He has Olympic and World championship Golds. If he wins this year, he will certainly go down as one of the best ever, especially if he can get under 3:29 sometime this summer.
I don't see 3:26.00 going down anytime soon, but Kiprop definitely has the best shot of anyone in recent memory. His 1:43.low speed shows that he can definitely cruise at the pace necessary to set the world record, it's just going to depend on his overall fitness. I think there's a good chance we see a 3:27 this year.
The thing is that this meet pays to get top competition and top pacers, which is how you get all these fast distance races. Last year there were multiple 7:27s at this meet. What an incredible meet for the times and competition this year! Kiprop's 3:28 is just a matter of opportunity now. Americans will not have seven or more Kenyans to race, although probably more than three at the Olympics in this event. And if our top guys are at their best, they will be competitive for medals. Centrowitz closed in 51 twice at World's last year. Wheating ran 3:30 in his first European race. Manzano can kick with anyone if everything goes right, as he has proven on multiple occasions. And of course Webb has run 3:30 as well, kicking strongly on numerous occasions that year, so a reprise of the 2007 Webb would obviously be a medal contender if healthy and at full strength in the Olympics.

Ventolin, where you at? Do these guys have a shot at the world record?
both went 53.2 in last lap, but asbel included a bump
silas evened out was 3'29.1, but this was a race primarly and TT 2ndarily ( 1'53.5 at 800 is 3'32.8 pace - the clocking was going nowhere at that stage )
asbel i think is better talent
maybe this year
46.8 / 1'42.8 - 1'42.9 ->
2'12.2 - 2'12.4
3'28.4 - 3'28.8
i can't see him going quicker than 3'28 this year
to do so, he needs better endurance, which still means 1'42.8 - 1'42.9 ability in perfect race, but able to do it off slower 400, say 46.9/47.0
1'42.8 - 1'42.9 with
46.9 ->
2'12.2 - 2'12.3
3'28.1 - 3'28.5
47.0 ->
2'12.1 - 2'12.3
3'27.8 - 3'28.1
in the next 2 - 3 years maybe high-3'27/3'28-flat is possible, but i don't think this year
( but you never know - still 3/12 to games & high-3'28/3'29-flat shape currently if you flatten-out splits & factor in the bump costing him lot of momentum
peaking coud find him the ~ 3/4s which woud make 3'27-high possible )
Yeah... I think he needs to try his hand at 5k at some point to give us and himself an idea of his strength.
Wasn't that Brown's opener? He's in crazy shape right now. He's going to be a real threat to make the Olympic team.
Now there is a vid of the meeting on youtube

Race starts at 1 hour. Kiplagat hits the gas in the last 50 meters and runs the last 300 in 39.3!

Best shot of anyone in recent memory?
How about the guy that won the race.
Kiplagat did not even PR in the race, he ran 3:29.27 in his first international race.
Here are his 5 best races:
3:29.27
3:29.63
3:30.47
3:30.61
3:31.59
All races that he won.
Kiprop now has two races under 3:31 to Kiplagat's four.
They are the same age (allegedly)
Kiplagat coems from a 5000m background but ran a nice 1:44.7 800 recently.
Kiprop has the better pure speed seemingly with a 1:43.15 PR.
I lump the two together when it comes to potential to run fast times.
