Get them to love soccer... Running will be come later in life.
Get them to love soccer... Running will be come later in life.
before you do anything ask yourself one question "do you feel lucky, punk?" no actually the question is how would you feel if your Dad did this to you to get you into an activity (that you may not be all that intersted in)
Let's say the activity is Chess and you are a great player and want your kids to be great players...do you really think you can make them become interested in it if they are not natarally or that you came make them love the activity
kids know when they are being manipulated
i loved running as a kid - but the quickiest way any parent could ruin that for me would be to get in the way (by thinking that it was up to them to motivate me)
motivation comes from within - if you try to mess with that you will not have an internally motivated athlete. i have seen this as a coach - and these are the kids with talent who quit the team mid-season or stop abrutly at some grade level.
so go ahead and meddle...and see how that turns out.
so to answer your question - you don't get them to become great runners, if it is going to happen, it will happen...but it will not happen if you think you are in charge of it happening.
If you fail at turning them into (great) runners, you can always fall back on plan B: turning them into smart, kind, hard-working, ethical human beings. But definitely try the running thing first.
