deena kastor running 10k this weekend? hell yeah!
Three of her biggest competitors are signed up for the marathon. I have to think she's in a good place to make the team this year.
A lot of people here who run the marathon report having less speed and even less when getting older. At the age of 39 and running 5:45s for the trials marathon, I'm not sure she has the wheels to go 5:05 / 1600 in a 10,000m. I'm rooting for her though. I would be interested to see some recent workouts from her though.
She ran 5:45 miles for 26 MILES, she can definitely run 6.2 miles at 5:05-10 pace. I hope she does great this weekend and makes the Olympics in June. She's incredible!
I just plugged her OT marathon time into the McMillan calculator and it gives a 10K prediction of 31:59, which is just under 5:10 pace. She should be right in that ballpark on Sunday.
Who cares. Deena makes it sounds like making the team is everything and she didn't make the marathon team.
Deena is not on the same level as Vivian Cheruiyot. Vivian will lap Deena. Deena didn't make the marathon team. That's all that matters. Deena still wants to run london olympic marathon but isn't allowed to run.
Deena must be crying every single day because she didn't make the olympic marathon. I don't think it's necessary to run the olympics when you don't make the marathon team. Making the team is everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone's missing the olympics because the selection process is so unfair. I could give a list of hundreds of athletes.
The kenyan lucy kabuu sharon, lydia florence didn't make it.
The Japanease Remi, Mizhuho MIzuki, Yoko,Mai, Akaba didn't make it.
Vivian Cheruiyot. won't run a California race with boring American athletes.
vivian will run london 10000 meters

Get a life.
I don't see this turning out well for some reason. Much like Geb, she needs to hang them up at some point.

Why? We are only talking about running. This isn't boxing or football where you can risk your health by staying in the game too long. The worst that can happen is she pulls a hamstring.

Why not give it a go? If she qualifies for London, I am pretty sure that after the games would be a great moment to retire from professional racing, if she wants to. However, if she still likes running and racing, there is also no need to stop - diminishing someone's performance record because an athlete has aged, and therefore isn't as fast as he or she once was, is really a bit childish.
Geb easily won the Vienna HM in 60 minutes last weekend. He isn't going to set another world record, but on a good day, it's still a pleasure to see him run.
As much as I respect Deena and what she's done as a professional runner, I just don't see her making the 10k team. There are just too many young up and comers out there now.
But time will tell...
Can you name some of these whippersnappers?

Amy Hastings
Desi Davilla
Sarah Porter
for starters
Who gives a damn about L.A. has beens like Deena. Her mom is enormous. That's what you get when you old and wrinkled. Remember only Eugene is Track Touwn USA.
Desi won't run the 10K, she made the marathon team. And Deena is better than Porter.

Who is Sarah Porter?
Lisa Uhl is obviously a favorite for the 10k team.
