You problem is self coaching.
I was a 1:52 800m guy and could run 47 for 400m but my best mile was only around 4:25. I could never put together a good mile or 1500m.
@ Sama O Same O
Nah, my problem is bad coaching. I've realized too late in the year that my endurance shouldn't have been neglected, now I'm looking for some hope that I can run a decent 800m time.
2:01 800 4:54 1600 although I normally do less then 20 miles a week.
154/430
My last year of track in high school I ran a 2:03 800 and only managed a 5:16 1600.
2:07 800, 4:48 1600
2:08 800m
5:05 1600m
Yes, there are lots of people who fall into this category. Depends if you are a 400/800 guy or a 800/1600 guy. As a coach, I've converted a lot of sprinters to 800 meter runners, but none of them are worth a damn in the 1600. I had a 1:58 guy who ran a 5:20 his senior year.
400-50.7
800-2:01
1600-5:00
....yeah pathetic but i havent tried in the 16 since i was a freshman.
Happens a lot in high school.
High School - 1:57/4:36
College - 1:54/4:17
in high school when i ran 2:15 i only managed 5:10. ran 25-30mpw if i remember
800m-2:08
1500m-4:11
I still want to know how I pulled that off. I am more of a 5k runner though...
Wilson Kipketer: 1:41, and a 3:59 mile (If i recall the mile correctly)
1:57 (800), 4:27 (1600m). Never heard of a tempo run until 2010, just trusted my coach's regimen of LSD and short intervals.
Just the opposite...ran 2 flat sooooo many times!!!
4:11 mile PR??? go figure.
I ran a 1:58 flat and lots of sub 2:00 times in the 800 but still have a 1600 pr of 4:44
1:56 twice in the same day (prelims and finals), and I never ran the mile faster than 4:26
400m - 51.8
800m - 1:56.9
1600m - 4:42
Based on other posts, I think I'm the winner (either me or the 2:03/5:10 guy). In fact, I don't even understand the prior poster that did 1:56 and 4:26 thinking he also has this imbalance as to me it seems his 1600m was superior (or at the very least equal to his 800).
Note that I did run the 800m a lot more often than the 1600m (say 3X per month for the 800 vs. 1-2X per year for the 1600m), so I probably had more left on the table in the longer distance. That being said, I was probably more fast twitch and somewhat bigger than your typical miler, so I doubt that I could have ever broke say 4:30 even if I had focused on and had more shots at that distance.
