I hate all the picky rules, too but this applies to ALL high school sports and is clear- no jewelry.
I am a certified official and former coach and I think it is a completely ridiculous rule. Jewelry is not dangerous for a runner. Why did the rule need to be implemented across all high school sports when clearly there is no danger to a runner wearing earrings? No one should ever get DQ'd for this violation in track, it should be a warning only.
