Galen Rupp must be laughing his @$$ off
Why was he running this race? I guess it doesn't hurt. And he is a professional. He's paid to...you know...run in front of people. Still, he ran a half not that long ago and that in turn was off of short rest from the marathon in January.

He can't get in on the B standard as other US athletes already have the A standard (remember it's the Olympics, not Worlds).
He was running this race as a workout and to get used to mixing it up in a pack and racing on a track again. He's running the Mt. Sac 5k, then will aim to get standard at the Payton Jordan 10k.
See his post-race interview on Flotrack here:
Who wins right now over 5,000, Ritz or Webb?

Dude, the Webb vs. Ritz thing is OVER. Right now Ritz could blow him away from 800 to marathon.
It is great that ritz has now moved on to plan b when it didn't work out for him in the marathon. Perhaps Webb can learn from him, because Webb has never had a plan b. Insanity is repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. That is what he does.

The splits I got were:
4:43
4:34
4:33
4:28
4:25
4:29
1:06
Mile splits in a 10000m race? Retarded Americans...
He gets in to the trials with the trials B standard. He'll have to get the actual Olympic A standard at either Peyton Jordan or the trials themselves.
He's running 5,000 at Mt. Sac and then the 10,000 at Payton Jordan. He should get the Olympic A at Paton no problem.
no problems--he won.
Good to see ritz in winning form.

Good Luck trying to get ANY Standards in the Trials...
Championship races are moronically slow...

Actually 1600 meter splits.
Now who is the retard?
What is a sub 5k American doing running the 10K. Didn't he learn anything from his fourth place showing in the Marathon trials. Does he want to resemble a hobbled case like Webb.

The A standard is 28:15. I'm looking at the Running Times in front of me with an article about Abdi, and he made the team in 28:19 (3rd, 2000), 27:55 (2nd, 2004), and 27:41 (1st, 2008). While it's obviously not a given, I'd say he can somewhat safely shoot to hit the standard at the trials. He could likely hit it pretty easily at Payton Jordan.

The Olympic A-standard is 27:45.00. The B-standard is 28:05.00.
http://www.iaaf.org/mm/Document/Statistics/Standards/05/97/61/20110415082248_httppostedfile_EntryStandards_London2012_24135.pdfPretty sure he was being subtlety sarcastic.
When I said that he'll probably get in on the B standard I was referring to the Olympic trials, although it is true that there aren't going to be many opportunities between then and the Olympics for him to run another 10000m race for the Olympic A standard. Should be interesting to see how that turns out. Either way last night's race was promising for Ritz.
Who cares about Ritz. Who was the no named kid from Western that finished just a few seconds behind him? Did he win D2 xc? That has to be one of the better D2 10k's ever.

That is not the definition of insanity. That is some tired quote that people keep using without thinking about it.
