I was a walk on at a Pac-12 school from 1988-1993 and never really felt ignored. I did notice that my training differed from the 2 scholarship athletes who ran my event, 800 meters, as they sometimes worked out with the sprint coach and I never had that opportunity.
I'm sure if I had all of a suddent run a time more comparable to the scholarship athletes then the sprint coach would have included me in training sessions with them.
At the same time, participation in those training sessions may have enabled me to run a time more comparable to the scholarship athletes.
All in all I can't complain about my experience. Bottom line is that if you run the times you will get the attention of your coaches.
As a walk on, realize that you may need to figure some of the things out on your own and even do your own extra training if necessary.
If you're truly not happy with the experience and feel you would receive better treatment elswhere then it's on you to take the initiative and explore your options.
Whatever you decide, make sure you take action that you will be satisfied with later on in life so you have no regrets.
