Yea it is definitely not false....he probably just does not want to tell you, but it is 100% true.
The original poster said that parents were told during orientation of this tradition. That is false. It is also false that ALL graduates have done this. When you make stuff up, it really should be more believable.
My college used to do naked drunken laps around the track until an all American broke his arm on the steeple barrier.
Some teammates and I from my school in Virginia did a 9 miler in the national forest completely naked; it isn't a tradition...yet.
It got kind of ridiculous because it was freezing and there are 4 stream crossings but no one wanted to be the one to quit.
I dig it, but I'm curious -- what was your plan if you rounded a turn and encountered some people out for a walk? Just keep going and act normal? I'm sure it wasn't crowded if it was a remote forest and if it was freezing out, but you never know.
CAL
I was at Michigan during the heydey of the Nude Mile (not the Naked Mile as it is often called). The tradition was actually started by a couple of guys from track and a couple from the crew team.
My freshman year, 1991, was the first one where there was a significant number of people running it (about 200 that year, including several dozen women). The crowd was a couple of thousand along the streets at midnight. The police even blocked off the road for us. At the time, they figured it was good, innocent fun. No one was getting hurt (except the occasional guy who would drink too much beforehand and trip during the run).
By my junior year, the crowds had gotten huge (10K +) and started crowding onto the street (instead of staying on the sidewalks as in years past). That was the first time there were any issues with groping or anything like that. During my senior year, about fifty of us did it at 11pm instead of midnight to avoid the crowds.
In the late 90's, some idiots started video taping it and posting it on the internet. That is when the administrators stopped turning a blind eye to the event. By that time also, there were 500+ participants and the amount of drinking on the streets by the "fans" was getting pretty out of control.
Each year, the women's swim team would through a nude party afterward. You had to check your clothes at the door. It was just like any other party, except no one was wearing clothes. The hosts were big on making sure it didn't turn into an orgy. If a couple started getting too amorous on the floor, they were asked to leave. You would of course have some guys who would try to come right up behind the girls and rub up while dancing, but that got them kicked out.
Overall, it was a fun tradition and you had a certain comradeship with your fellow streakers after that event. Too bad people couldn't leave a good thing alone.

Grinnell runs naked through campus before they host the "dick" young classic.
These runs go through the library and academic buildings, and often end with sprinting away from the DAG club. I never figured out what DAG stood for but its a club that is really into fighting with foam swords, and attacking naked cross country runners with foam swords.
Grinnell also runs naked through campus on particularly hot days to remind everyone out on the quads to stay hydrated.
Those guys and girls like being naked.
UT-San Antonio annual naked party
I have about 20 friends that go to UVA.
EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM confirmed for me the streaking that must go on before graduation. Some of them were not the streaking type, but did it because of the tradition.
I'm pretty sure Robby Andrews did it. Girls even do it. Its a big deal and its at night. There is some alcohol but there are no cameras. Or there are supposed to be no cameras.
sounds like that zack kid who ran at monmouth college?
Millersville use to have the naked relays back in the 90s. Not sure if they still have it or if it will continue now that their track team has been cut. Another great tradition will be lost.

Don't be silly, runners at _______ _________ never streak!
An article that discusses the "streaking of the lawn":
http://uvamagazine.org/features/article/according_to_custom/
An excerpt:
The tradition of streaking the Lawn has since gained a toehold among students at the University. Custom has it that before one takes a degree from the University, he or she is to run naked from the steps of the Rotunda down the 740-foot Lawn, kiss the statue of Homer, and streak back up the Lawn. One version says that streakers must then peer through the keyhole of the Rotunda toward the Galt statue of Thomas Jefferson before donning their clothes.
All the kids from my HS that went to UVA streaked.
lol
Don't be fooled. Those stories are all exaggerated. They were naked once or twice at most and that was only one guy. The rest of the time they were wearing minimalist swimwear. Are you really telling me you believe everything you hear?
SUNY Fredonia does the Library Run where men and women T&F team memebers run naked through the school library. I think some do body paint. It is often well publicized and students (and faculty?) go to the library ahead of time to get good seats and spectate.
Univ of Rochester has (used to have) a tradition where the men's xc team would streak across the stage at an outdoor on-campus movie showing. I think back in like 2003 the UP or someone chased them and caught a guy and the tradition went away like a scared turtle.

Absolutely true, it's a long standing tradition recognized by the UVA administration. Any student who attended UVA will confirm this. During orientation we were told of 2 long standing traditions, first tradition discussed was the longstanding self governed oath by the students not to lie, cheat or steel and anyone accused of this will be heard by the student councel who can take any action including expelling the student. The second tradition discussed was streaking the lawn. Whether or not "all students" participate is unknown but everyone I've known who attended UVA has fulfilled their obligation
In regards to streaking the lawn, it is on the unofficial list of things to do before you graduate from the University as set forth by the respective classes of the University. A good chunk of the student body, whether they are the streaking type or not, participate in this tradition.
On most Friday/Saturday nights, I would estimate that maybe 75 students streak the lawn. Most of the time, liquor may be involved. It really sucks though, as the people who live around the lawn like to spotlight people and flash lights in their faces/etc. However, it is still one hell of a tradition.
