I feel terrible for him. I hope he doesnt become another Alan Webb falling into that "injury cycle".

on the contrary. he will be PR in the 10000m this year. I expect around 26:48.
The 5k and 10k are probably the two most similar events in track and field. I never understood why people think that someone can be trained for one and not the other.
120 Badger miles would equal 140 miles at 6 minute pace. I bet he was doing AT LEAST 140 miles, if not 150.
Strange his coach is so hands off.
Solinsky , Wheating , Fernandez , for that very few elite that go on so many dont , its fine line of injury to fame , when the cycle of injury goes to long its very rare they come back to that original form , physical problems them become mental and thus the real downward spiral.
They are young , hopefully surrounded with good advisors and understand in many cases less is more.
A huge question that has to be asked. Why did Solinsky put in such high volume intense training leading up to 2010 Payton Jordan. It was spring time in an off championship year. 26:59 is great and all. But it was Payton Jordan. Who cares. Save it for a Diamond League event, let alone a Championship race.
Maybe it had nothing to do with the hamstring issues of 2011. And of course he did have great performances in the summer of 10' and 11'. But it seems he was taking unnecessary risks in training just for the sake of getting great performances in an off year, off season period.
Isn't it about time for a "Badger Mile" adjustment? Why pretend you are running 7s when you are running 6s? Don't tell me it doesn't make a difference, because it obviously did!
You are Chris Solinsky, dagnabit! You are not Cathy Branta!! You are not running 7 minute pace.

I do not think that you know the meaning of the phrase, "let alone".
Here, try this, "He shouldn't even have been risking re-injuring his hammy for a Diamond League event, let alone for Payton Jordan."
And to say what I think you really wanted to say, "At least save it for a Diamond League event, better yet a Championship."
Maybe Nike should pay Solinsky a bonus to cap his volume at 90-100. He'd still be running ~1500 more miles/year than Lagat.
I have to agree. He's an incredible talent, but he's just going to run out of time, and he's not really healthy yet. Hard for an elite athlete to do, but he should write off this Olympic year & focus on 2013.
mileage hog, bad syndrome to be in

I thought the way that was worded in the article was a little weird. You'd think Jerry would be a bit more careful with Teg, Solinsky, and Jager injured often and Nelson and Bairu burnt out.
Thanks for the input. Don't forget to show up for the next English Language Nazi rally.

I think the drag for him is that trials is so soon. IF he can get through that and somehow qualify, the time until London would be invaluable.
Of course, if he makes it to London he won't be a factor, but given his extraordinary level of fitness, it sounds to me like a rapid rahab is possible.
Why are you complementing him??? The only reason why I clicked on this thread was to read another of your solinskrap rants.
congrats
His Hamstring is shot. What this means is he can not run period until its better.
If you've ever tried to run on an injured hamstring you know whats happened.
The only exception is IF you have qualified for an Olympic final and it flares up and you are going after a Gold Medal your very next race.
Every other time, even stupid NCAA nats its retarded, especially if you are mid-20's. By the time your hamstring is healed and you are back in shape you are almost 30 and your career is basically done.
10,000
Rupp and two others
5,000
Lagat, Rupp and one other
Does anyone disagree? Pick your two other 10,000m guys and one other 5,000m guy.
Unless there is some bad news for Teg and Ritz that I haven't heard of those two would be at the front of the line to get those last spots in both events. Ritz's sluggish NY half is no big deal. He will rest and then train with Farah and Rupp through to the Trials. You gotta favor somebody in that position. Teg of course made the 10K team last year, has apparently stayed healthy since, is a sub 13 runner and still in his prime. You have to like those chances too.
I like to think somebody will emerge and turn in a great performance. Maybe Derrick. But until they do Ritz and Teg are the provens.

Thank you. Stuff like this drives me crazy. No one uses "let alone" correctly. Those same people also say "I could care less."
I hate those people.
