LRC is not a community that discusses running. LRC is a community of runners who discuss other things.
Other "running" communities like Runner's World are average people who go there to talk about running. They typically do not define themsleves as runners past the 26.2 sticker on their car. This is not a compliment or insult to either community, just a fact.
LRC is comprised of people who consider themselves serious runners, be that good or bad, true or untrue. I think of LRC much like going on a run with buddies. Yes, we are runners and often touch on the subject of running (such as recent races, professionals, etc), but for the most part we discuss other things.
You are delusional.
LRC is no longer comprised of the people you describe.
LRC is a site and a chat board that has throwbacks to the chatboards when the www, was the wild west.
This place is mostly for stupidity...with the occasional decent thread thrown in.
All too often the numbnuts here are concerned with how fast they can post something derogatory, mean-spirited, quasi-clever or of an off color sexual nature.
Some day the owners will mature and under go a process to re-brand, and reform this brand.
so you are a nobody in T&F?:)
yeah, except no 4chan they have the sense to include pix whenever hotness is discussed.

Whoa. Too funny.
alien tents and poor pusses.
Been around LR since close to its beginning. Even in the old days when elites were posting more often it wasn't always all that great. It's always had its foibles and seamy underside.
Now about other sites--where to begin? Indeed most that "know" about LR purport to hate it. I've even used it on other sites as an example of the dark/weird site of the sport. Nevertheless, if you want the most up to date inside scoop, sometimes dirt, on the American running scene this is the place.
LR can be funny, sick, disgusting, maddening, and sometimes insightful and informative all at the same time--even in the same thread.
Whenever I'm around other runners/joggers, which isn't all that often, I try to tease out the likelihood that they’re LRC’ers. Surprisingly, I would say that a good majority of them have not heard of the site.
For those that I meet who were not aware of LRC they seem to have been competitive at one point in their lives and used to follow the sport but not very much in the past couple of decades.
I would also say that most of the hobby joggers seemed to be very aware of LRC – probably for grief they take from this site – which, btw, I believe to be a good thing. As a side note, when I was a lousy assed freshman in HS I took a lot of grief from the upperclassmen for being so slow and not taking the sport seriously enough. People coming to the sport late in life need to experience the negative reinforcement of peer pressure. This doesn’t mean that I believe that they have to run 100 mile weeks but they should put some effort into it or get comfortable with being at the bottom of the pecking order. All the joggers codling each other is a bit much.
Anyway, for those who are unaware, I direct them to LRC in an effort to reignite the flame. For those who admit to visiting the site will ask if I do as well. If I respond affirmatively (sometimes I say that I don’t) their uniform response is, “What name(s) do you post under?”
I come to the site for entertainment, for running discussions, and for grammar debates. ;)
I don't come for advice. For advice, I go to running friends I trust, sometimes to coaches. And since my times are nothing to brag about, I don't brag about them here. But I have my personal goals and if I meet them, I share this with friends who know what these goals mean to me.
But in a detached way, I enjoy LRC.
The only reason I come here is because there are Dane bashers. And he needs bashing, badly. For running advice I go to my fellow running partners or Jack Daniels book. That's it.
In my (very limited) experience, very few people are even aware of LR's existence. The people that do know of LR are generally people who take running very seriously.
As a 'hobby jogger' I come here to be entertained. I dont find much here training wise that is relatable to me. I do find some running related threads that are interesting in regards to the elites..and for awhile the Kip Litton stuff was interesting.
Letsrun is where I go for running info that is appropriate for me. The group features and training logs are an added benefit. I dont get the impression that they hate LRC. They hate Active.com more since they screwed up the coolrunning site and everyone moved to runningahead.
There is a formerly active thread somewhere that I'll try to link..it was wither the LRC thread of the day or "What I learned on Letsrun".
Nobody roots for Goliath.
I used to frequent LR quite often, but grew tired of the sophomoric banter here. Now I post almost exclusively at RW and only occasionally lurk here. There are MORE knowledgeable people there then there are here now. If you want GOOD training advice, visit RW. If you want NO advice and only smart-aleck comments, THIS is the place for you.
It is because we talk a lot of shit. Most of us are not bad guys it is just like when you are running and talking shit to your buddies about guys on other teams or the slackers in the group. We say it how it is. It is not always easy to hear but sometimes you got to grow a pair and suck it up. And by the way I am in no way proud of anyone who is happy to have "run" their first marathon in 4 hours and wants to get a bumper sticker. As long as they hate us they will stay away and the ones who understand will get their shit together and work to get to the point where they do have respectable times and they can thank LRC for being hard on slow guys.
Here's the thread I was referencing. It may have been what brought me on here in the first place.

Amen.
I used to post and read/lurk on RWs. I used to find MRT and the Masters thread to be helpful but since finding this place, I have not really gone back. Not sure why.
Besides the occasional banter and the grammar police on here, I enjoy visiting this site for running news, advice (even if you're a hobby jogger like me, I find LOTS of good info on here..) you just have to sift through them. Entertainment is the best and I like the no nonsense attitude...
I like when you can just come and go on here versus posting on RWs and feel like you have to address EVERYONE or share every bit of your life on there.
