I've been resting due to a femoral stress fracture since early January. The stress fracture was due to overuse and a sudden increase in mileage. As it is now mid February, my doctor said I could return to running as long as I do so gradually. He advised that I run on a treadmill. Today, I ran for the first time. I walked for five minutes, then ran for five minutes at an 8:45 pace, walked for another five minutes, and then ran for 5 minutes at an 8:45 pace. I felt little twinges of very, very subtle pain while running and walking. However, later in the day the pain got a little bit worse, though not nearly as bad as it was prior to taking time off of running. Is it normal to feel a little pain when getting back into running?
