He doesn't need to keep this form up. I imagine Salazar will enter Rupp in a longer race sometime next month, then take time to recover before leading up to the trials and then the Olympics.

Good for Galen! He's gonna be a threat at the olympics if he's in peak shape, I hope. I really wanted him to get Lagat's 2 mile AR, even more after his 5k was gone, but I kind of thought it wasn't going to happen. But it did! Also, in that youtube video, the end was pretty funny. Rupp appeared pretty pissed after the guy told him Lagat got the 5k AR, and he's like "Ok, good for him."
Let's look at the line of fit:

Holy cripes! Didn't realize he was so close to Bekele's WR. Give it some time - only 5 seconds over 8 laps... that's nothing. Go GR!
he's close to the world record, but don't take that as being close to Bekele. Bekele can clearly run sub8 if he wanted to.
Go Rupp!! Congrats
Great race- I much prefer his black singlet and shorts though. His proportion of orange to white to blue was way off.

What? 5+ secs is quite a ways back.
5+ secs back from the greatest of all time. That pretty much ties him with ordinary humans.
Can we drop the Rupphate now? The dude continues to perform, race after race. Can you name the last race that he flat out disappointed? Failed to deliver big time? I'm not talking about "looked like a dork with the gimp mask", I mean "didn't zip it down and whip it out like he said he would". He's probably more consistent than Ryan Hall, and that's really saying something.

Not any more he can't. Geb tried to get under 8 and he couldn't and he definitely had better 1500 speed than Bekele and Bekele is not as fast as he used to be.
No. Chance.
Hey JESSSE WHERE YOU ATT BOYYYYYYYYYYY???????
GOOD CALL BROOOO!!! YOU SO SMARTTTTTTT!
I think Rupp finally gets under 13 for 5k this year, Gets a bronze in Olympic 10k, and runs a mid 7:3x 3000. The boy is on a roll.
Way to go Rupp!!!
Rupp's collegiate 3000m indoor record on the same day Rupp sets the AR in the 2 mile
Awesome job by Rupp, I just wish he could interview as well as he races. I am a big fan of his running, but its a bit tough to take him seriously as a person, reminds me of how I felt about Webb after he set his AR in the mile.
Rupp crossed the 3k in approximately 7:38.16 which is PR (7:42) and it would be the word lead in the event.

2/3 isn't bad!
What makes this all the more amazing, on top of his 4:08-4:01 splits. His first lap was 34.38!!??? I'm all for conservative starts and negative splitting, but that first lap might have cost him 2-3 seconds. If he had gone out in 31, he might not have closed quite as fast, but he would surely have run faster. All of his other splits made sense. Running 8:09 is amazing, running it with a 34.38 first lap is out of this world and makes his run truly world class.
I think the first split included the extra uneven distance to make the race a 2 Miler, and the other splits were just 200m.
First split was 218m like I thought.

8:09 off current 3:57 "speed" means insane strength, aerobic & threshold fitness.
I'm assuming he's now a bit faster than 3:57 in the mile right now.
I don't think Ryan Hill's 3000m (7:43) counts as the CR, as it was on an over-sized track.
