Uhh..what? Have you ever run sub 15? I'm guessing no. Cause I have, and never touched anything NEAR 6:30 except except for workouts. 6:30 doesn't that feel much different to a sub-15 guy than to a 17:xx guy, it's sub-5 pace that feels a lot different.
your response makes no sense. but you are correct, I am not sub-15 and yeah I run in the 17s. Yet 6:30 is not super challenging for me to do in a training run. Shouldn't it even be then even more easy for you to do? More importantly shouldn't running 6:00 or 5:45 be about as easy for you as running 6:30 is for me? If yes, what are you disagreeing with me for?

I was in the middle of my long run (6:30/pace) today in a local park. I came up on another runner's shoulder (he was probably going 7:30/pace). The moment I was on his left, he completely switched gears and struggled to make sure I didn't pass him.
I got a little frustrated and took it as an indirect challenge at each other's pride. so I clipped off a 5:45 mile and dropped him.
What do you call a person like this? That won't let you pass him in the middle of a regular distance run.
Since this is the internet and you are prone to exaggeration, I think this is more likely the story...
I was in the middle of my daily 4 mile run (8:30/pace) today in a local park. I came up on another runner's shoulder (he was probably going 9:30/pace). The moment I was on his left, he completely switched gears and struggled to make sure I didn't pass him.
I got a little frustrated and took it as an indirect challenge at each other's pride. so I clipped off a 7:45 quarter and dropped him.
Now carry on with your little story.
I am a very courteous runner. Most everyone runs faster than me (I'm more of a jogger really). I don't care if someone is running faster than me, I just mooove over.
I try to respect their running space and their personal goals as I hope they will respect mine. I would no more try to get in the way of a faster runner than I would want them to laugh at me because I run 12 minute miles. To date, I've never had a problem on the road or trail thinking this way :)

Maybe the jogger was pissed cuz you didn't give him the obligatory 'Good Job!'.
I AM HERE! I AM RUNNING! I AM DOING A GOOD JOB! NOW GIVE ME MY 'GOOD JOB'!
If a faster runner said "good job" to me I'd punch him, the patronizing b**tard.
OK, that's an exaggeration but I'd be extremely annoyed.

As a not-so-fast runner who sometimes does group workouts where runners are a lot faster, I'll get the "good job" comments. I figure people don't mean to be patronizing. (Even if they do, life is too short to let it worry me. It's not as if they don't have reason, ha!) If I have any breath to respond, I'll say "thanks," or "you too!" If I get no such comments, I'm perfectly fine with that as well. But assuming people mean to be friendly in saying things like that makes me happier inside than assuming they just want to condescend. If the latter, that's their issue, not mine.
I was in the middle of a marathon (4:42/pace) once with my buddy Moses. We came up on another runner's shoulder (he was probably going 4:50/pace). The moment I was on his left, he completely switched gears and struggled to make sure I didn't pass him.
I got a little frustrated and took it as an indirect challenge at each other's pride. so I clipped off a 14:15 5K and dropped him.

Every time I see this thread I misread it as "Jager" and think, "Why is Evan being so mean to this poor loser? I know he's coming back from an injury, but come on, be nice!"
Am i alone on this?
This reminds me of the time I was doing my tempo workout on a treadmill at the gym. I was minding my own business when these two kids jumped on the treadmills next to me. I could see the one closest to me checking my pace. He proceeded to bump his up to match. Then he'd slow down to rest and then speed up again. I was completely soaked in sweat so I waged a little biological warfare against him and started flicking my arm just a bit as I swung through. They moved on pretty quickly after this.

I DO watch TV on the treadmill at the gym. But it is SO annoying when I hear the guy (who is clearly more of a weightlifter than a runner) killing himself on the treadmill next to me, and then I glance down and see his speed is set 0.1 mph higher than MY speed.
If I loss my keys that day this would be very funny.....wish life was more ironic!
