Hobby jogger is bullshit. If you race for time you are NOT a hobbyjogger. You are at the very least a hobby runner/racer.
If a male runs a local 8k at 5:00/mile, he can't be a hobbyjogger...c'mon dipshits!

Anyone who carries a water bottle on a hobby jog if it's under 85 degrees is a hobby jogger.

hobby jogger a person who:
1. runs less than 5 times a week.
2. enters races for the social aspect of it.
3. follows any kind of "couch to 5k/10k/marathon program
4. wears an Ipod during a race.
5. admires Dean K.
6. has vibrams
7. thinks you can get in "race shape" by going spin class
8. puts 13.1 or 26.2 stickers on their cars that literally walked either
I got 4 out of 8.
I am pretty pi55ed off I can't wear my headphones at a couple races I have signed up for. I think I am going to get some battery powered speakers so they are pretty loud and carry one in each hand.
If you run the mile in 7:00 or over you are a hobbiest.
Hobby is a word in the dictionary.
an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation
There should be more classifications:
Elite - obvious, have sponsorship
Sub-elite - striving to be elite, may have some small sponsorship
Runner - does 50+ mpw, often wins local races, wins age group in larger races
Hobby Runner - does 30-50 mpw, might win age group in local races
Hobby Jogger - does @15-30 mpw
Weekend Warrior - only runs when the weather's perfect

If you are doing it to compete, or set PR's or see how high up the WAVA table you can get that makes you more than a hobbyist or a jogger. It's not about miles per week or paces, it's about intent and passion.
It cant be defined but you just know it when you see it!
Anyone who feels the need to put someone down by calling them a "hobby jogger" is an insecure douche.
anyone who calls someone an insecure douche is an insecure douche except for me.
I think a hobby jogger is someone who goes out and jogs on a semi-regular basis without any real regimen and never gets their heart rate up over 100-120 when they are out there.
They may jump in a race now and then (where they do get their heart rate up).
They will likely have very nice running gear and shoes.
So it's not how fast you run or even how much you but how hard you run.

Letsrun delusional idiocy at its finest.
A hobby jogger is "everyone slower than I am" according to most people.
Hobby Joggers are heterosexual runners.
The average runner most definitely can NOT even touch a 15 minute 5k, let alone 20 minutes. Judging by the entire running population, the average time is probably somewhere in the 25-30 minute range. And the comparison of a 4:30 mile to a 15 minute 5k was rather ignorant as well, as a 15 minute 5k is much more impressive than a 4:30 mile. Maybe the average Letsrunner can knock out a 15 minute 5k, but not the average runner.

Actually the average Letssunner poster can type that he is sub-15. As far as actually knocking one out, well...

I was going for complete and utter sarcasm :)
A picture is worth a thousand words. Basically it is someone who doesn't take racing seriously.

Hobby means something you do for fun and are not paid to do. People whose full time paid job is to run (runners with professional contracts) are not hobby joggers. Collegiate runners with scholarships who run on the varsity team are not hobby joggers.
Everyone else who runs is a hobby jogger. Do I have that right?
Yuki Kawauchi is a hobby jogger? Roger Bannister, Emil Zatopek and Lasse Viren were hobby joggers?
