Interesting to know how many times they tested guys like Hall or Ritz before trials.

Great question ... not too many, or >> Not nearly enough << the testing is a joke.

So how many elite marathoners have been busted for doping in the past 5-10 years anyway?
If Americans need PEDs to run 2:09, I'd have to say that's pretty sad.

Why would it be sad? The world record was barely faster than 2:09 a generation ago. There are obviously very few Americans who can run 2:09, with or without PEDs.

Is Awesomeness on the banned list? If not, no need to test Meb.

No, many people would have said the same thing about Lance Armstrong. I am not implying that Meb would ever cheat, but he sure as hell should not be given some b.s. free license to dope card.

You mean Saladbar?
Alberico Di Cecco was banned some years ago. He is/was a 2:08 marathoner.
And that Russian last week.
No sweat for Meb. With 128 NCAA National Championships, UCLA athletes are used to being in the spotlight.

According to the USADA website

Meb has been tested 98 times since 2000 including 5 times last year.
Ryan Hall has been tested 54 times since 2000 including 6 times last year.
Abdi has been tested 62 times including 1 time last year.
Ritz has been tested 98 times including 12 times last year.
Gotcher has been tested 10 times including 1 time last year.
There's obviously variations in how long everyone has been active since 2000, and in-competition testing obviously depends on how many competitions you enter or how many you win, but it still seems like a lot of variation in how much testing is going on from 12 times in 2010 for Ritz to 1 time for Abdi and Gotcher.
Anyone know why so much variation?
Here's how often the top women from the trials have been tested-
Shalane-96 times, 10 in 2010
Desi-8 times, 2 times in 2010
Kara-58 times, 4 times in 2010
Amy Hastings-22 times, 3 times in 2010
Janet Cherobon(-Bawcom), 2 times, 1 time in 2010
Deena-98 times, 3 times in 2010
Winning a lot and running track obviously get you tested more than running on the road.

This doesn't include fourth quarter 2011 testing, but:
Hall was tested 5 times in 2011.
Ritz was tested 10 times in 2011.
Meb was tested 1 time in 2011.

They both are endurance athletes and both wrote a book...any comparison's between those two pretty much ends right there...in terms of integrity and moral character Lance and Meb aren't even on the same planet...Lance is closer to Charles Manson in this area than he is to Meb.
Nobody gets a free pass in endurance sport, as we need to be skeptical of all, but Meb is as close as they come to sure thing clean.
In fact, Meb should be the measuring rod for what you can accomplish clean. His consistency as a prime time competitor at every level in every area (xc, track, road) since 1993 and not just a guy who has run some times or won here and there that don't match up with other things that he has done is what has restored my faith that you can have clean champions in this sport.
Since Ryan Hall's coach is omnipresent, I don't thing he could turn a blind eye if Ryan was cheating. I think Ryan's as likely to be clean as Meb is.
I've seen Kenyans tested at random, at home, out of season many times. Don't post things unless you have proof.
Really? Did they find the Generation UCAN super starch in his urine test? If so, I believe it's legal.
Bottom line, if you have nothing to hide--no reason to get your compression socks in a bunch...just saying.
Track Coach, it's pretty common knowledge you're clean in 7 hours with micro doses.
Meb should thank them. The best time to dope is right after you've been tested.
