I am around. Just not a lot "running" wise to contribute. I am starting to do some general fitness work: weights, stretching, situps, granny/nanny pushups, etc. I threw my back out a few weeks ago lifting weights so light it was depressing. By light I mean 3 and 5 pound dumbbells. I was in the hospital for four days as a result. So, I am having to find a way to train/exercise that is beyond anything I have ever dealt with. Basically, I am like a 70 year old. I can no longer think of what I used to do as a 20 something year old in terms of reps, weights, sets, etc. I have been able to do stretching, some crunches, oblique crunches, core drills, etc without issue. I have also tried to start incorporating some light walking again. I know my doctor and hospice team don't want me walking because of fear of fractures, but, I guess I'm being stubborn. I did a mile on Wednesday in just over 26 minutes. For me, that's pretty good. I really thought it was going to take me about 40 minutes. Plus, that day, I was not taking pain meds, so, I was short stepping and achy. Not the best conditions for a "stroll". I could tell my heart rate was pretty elevated (maybe 150-160bpm) at that pace, but, I figure, if nothing else, it could help stimulate some blood cell production. Positive stress on the system. Hopefully, if I keep at it I can get a little better before things slip again...
Yay, CG!! So glad to hear from you :-) You are one tough dude -- good for you for going the mile. I think you are right about elevating the heart rate. It's got to stimulate good stuff, flush out bad stuff, and rev up some vital organs & muscles. (Gee, isn't my medical knowledge impressive? Uh, no.)
Keep hangin' in there. Your 1-mile walk is definitely worthy of reporting here.
Prayers for strength for you --
XOXO
Got about 1-7/8 this afternoon going for an afternoon stroll with the kiddos to the "tunnels". They are some drainage canals that run underneath a nearby road. We walk around them and it's totally cool for them. Sort of an urban spelunking expedition. Plus, it was a good excuse to get out of the house. Did some stretching, crunches, and, granny push ups last night, but, missed my day of walking yesterday. I really want to start doing at least a mile a day if I can help it. let's say 30 minutes a day, bare minimum, 7 days a week. That'd give me a good 3.5-4 hours of aerobic activity. Add on top of that some weight lifting and stretching and I think I'll see positive benefits in a few weeks. At least, that's my hope.
Awesome! Was just thinking about you today, glad to see you're still getting the mileage in. Keep it up!
So happy to see you still kicking butt and taking names, CG!!! Inspiration. Pure inspiration.
In sadder news, my father passed last Thursday 11/15/2012.
redux, I am sorry to hear about your father. My wife gave me your number but I have been unable to stop and call. I am at the hospital tonight getting a transfusion and will reach out tomorrow. Again, my deepest condolences.
2 miles 45:00
After being stuck in the hospital for two days with a transfusion my water weight was WAY UP (210 lb) so I went for a walk. My ankles hurt. Time to get the velo spinner out. Walking hurts too much.
Still amazed by your fortitude and perseverance, CG! Wishing you a happy Thanksgiving. I hope you enjoy a bountiful feast with your loving family tomorrow.

sorry, redux :(
Thanks. I only have three words to say about how I've been able to cope with it - No unfinished business, ever.
Say everything you have to say before its too late. I think I'd be a mess if I had some nagging words in my heart I never got around to saying. I made sure to work it all in during different conversations we had before he entered hospice. What he means to me, what he taught me, how he's my example for how I live, that I love him. Once he was in hospice I just focused on his comfort and happiness. We had a last beer together. We talked about women. I shared my hopes amd dreams. The last words I said were "I love you, dad." It hurts like hell, but its bittersweet. And all those platitudes.
I hate to quote band lyrics, so I'll just say that CCR's song "Someday" is a song I promised myself would never be a song of my life. So far it hasn't.
CG!
I just got back from my annual european tour and thought I'd check on how you were doing.
Have a good Thanksgiving!
1.5 walk with kiddos. Ankles hurt. Really swollen ankles from hospital stay...still.
Redux, I'm sorry to hear about your dad.
CG, how are you? Thinking of you from afar.
Anyone hear from CG lately?
No, but I've been wondering too. How are you, CG?
It bothers me that posts like this aren't stickied at the top of the forums, while doping news never leaves the top.
I texted him a couple weeks ago after we talked. I haven't heard back. The first time I called I didn't hear back for a couple weeks.
If anyone gets a chance, don't miss out on talking to him; he's a great person.
Guess I should call to see what's goin on.
CG had a rough week+ but is doing better now. I'm sure he will reply when he feels up to it. I'm sure he appreciates everyone's concern, kind thoughts, and prayers.
Praying for you CG!!
Just to remind others he has a blog here...http://wrestlewithdeath.blogspot.com/
Goes a little more indepth than what you may see here. It was last updated 11/22.
