Putting into perspective ten percent of the entrants were DNF. I'd like to know what happened? LV was doing well but then maybe he pulled out because of a saddle sore or depleted. I like this scenario LV wanted to get to that state physically before his best event -- the run -- to gauge his mental and physical state in the the longer distance.
Hot conditions, tough course. I think lukas wasn't ready for the olympic jump. His run miles were a little low for someone trying to race olympic competitively.
It looks like he tried to compete with a broken bone according to his twitter.

From his twitter 10 minutes ago:
"Don't ever compete with a broken bone in your body no matter how much you want to. Learned it today"
Which bone was broken?
Lukas Verzbicas is a quitter. What's next? You're going to tell me Japan bombed Pearl Harbor?
His Twitter account is becoming his excuse medium. He should call it quitter, not twitter.

THANK YOU.
I just checked an Ivy League (!) thread wherein someone wrote about the "heptathalon."

What is so difficult?
The pure JOY everybody gets when someone that could kick their a55 running, swimming, and biking gets injured is what makes coming here to letssuck such a great experience.
"Making his elite and Olympic-distance debut, reigning junior world champion Lukas Verzbicas was in position to strike on the run and quickly joined the top five out of T2 before ending his day at the 6k mark due to a left shin injury. Verzbicas, who sensed a tweak in his shin earlier in the week but felt good in pre-race warm ups today, will undergo evaluation upon return to Colorado Springs to determine the extent of his injury."
I'm a mid distance track coach only but if he was that close to winning in his first attempt at the distance with a broken leg, I have to predict that he's going to win the gold medal eventually (2016?).
He has to look at this very positively.
Coach d, you couldn't coach a drunk Irishman to piss in the street. You predict Olympic gold in four years time based on a guy pulling out of a 10km run leg of a triathlon at the 6km mark against third tier competition. What a fcking stupid statement!

That's par for course for coach d.
I'm pretty sure it couldn't have been his debut triathlon seeing as how he's already done a bunch of triathlons on the past. maybe you mean first triathlon as an adult? or first triathlon as a professional athlete (is he sponsored by anyone?)?
From the PATCO - Panamerican Triathlon Confederation website:
"Reigning Junior World Champion Lukas Verzbicas made his highly anticipated elite debut but failed to finish the race after pulled out at the 6km mark with a left shin injury."

I almost won a big race too... but I got tired and had to stop after two miles in a 10K.... if the race was only 2 miles I could have won I was only 5 sec behind the winner.
If you are not 100% dont race and make excuses. He does have talent but the excuse about his leg makes him seem like a little B$%^H. How many other guys in the race were hurting or sore and completed the race.

Agreed....just one of many things though.

If it turns out he stopped because he had to take a dump, then do you bump the Olympic Gold prediction back 4 years or leave it 2016?
Maybe he dropped out due to nipple chafing.
