Shame on you guys for hating on DB. He is a good friend of mine and his body over the past 3 years has gone through more then any of you would ever want to go through as a runner. There is a reason a 2:11 Marathoner ran 2:42 and you morons should really think about that before you talk crap about a very respectable runner. I know what he has been going through over the past three years and he is one hell of a Warrior to even finish the race in the condition his body was in. Oh and the ones saying he is not a real soldier he is volunteering to deploy soon...now dont you feel dumb...
First of all, Dan Browne isn't in the Army's World Class Athlete Program anymore. He runs for Nike. He started his career in that program. I have been in the program and he is a legend there, as he should be. If he had a bad day, or three years, then give him that. He is a Major in the National Guard now and he is a hero. He not only has been in the real Army and evidently volunteering for a future deployment but he has been deployed before. There is no special rule in the Army that he couldn't have dropped out of the race if he wanted to, the fact that he didn't just speaks for his character. He is a Soldier. I can speak as an Soldier/athlete, in the Army currently deployed overseas and I am training for a marathon. All of should really give the man some props. He is no ordinary athlete, who can just run and that is it. He could have done that easily with the times that he was producing but he has always felt another calling by serving his country. Whatever idiot posted anything disparging about the man is, just that, an idiot. How fast can you run? And have you ever done anything patriotic or for that much, meaningful in your life?
He actually is still with WCAP. The Olympic Trials was his last competitive race. He is going to be the coach of the program now. Look out for the WCAP runners in the future, they are going to get really good with DB coaching the program!

I'm glad that MAJ Dan Browne has fought for your freedom so you can say stupid things and put him down. Whoa doesn't that make you feel good about yourself! Probably 90% of the people on this board would take his 2:42 on any given day. Full combat load is approximately 110 pounds of extra weight on your body. I don't think many of you could handle a two-mile run with it, let alone a 10k road march. Another idiot negative American blabbering without walking in the other person's shoes.
I think I know who "DB The Warrior" is. He knows more than any of you. My 3rd hand knowledge is that DB has an injury that is a career ending injury. It barely allows training and has been going on for a lot longer than the buildup to this race. Just finishing, let alone a 2:42, is pretty impressive given the nature of this injury even for someone of his previous achievements.
The ARMY asked DB to run in their elite program and he has done so admirably and consistently. He was faster than ANYONE posting here.

Dan graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1997, meaning he started in 1993, and has been an officer ever since. That gives him 18 years in the Army by my count. If your handle is accurate, he outranks you. As I'm sure you know, there is a wide variety of jobs in the Army, including WCAP, and as far as I've ever heard, Dan has fulfilled the obligations of a position that the Army believes is valuable ever since he entered the Academy. If you think he's not hard enough to be infantry, or Rangers, or whatever job you think would make him a "real" officer, it's time to get over yourself.

If DB has not been running well the last couple of years, how did he qualify for the OT's? Has he even run a 10K recently that meets the qualification?

Dan qualified for the Trials as a former Olympian.
Dan pulled a "Shorter" at the 2004 Athens Olympics:
