You cannot be serious. Guys 3-10 on the depth chart are training to run the fastest possible marathon at the OTs. The idea that those guys would alter any workouts because they thought Rupp might run is ludicrous.

That is just some guy's blog post, and is the same as all the other coverage. It's not anything from Rupp/Salazar/Nike, nor does it contain any quotes from them about possibly running. So if Rupp and his camp were seeking attention, they did so by ... not saying a word.
And if entering a race (with no fanfare) a few weeks before it, and then withdrawing a week before, "destroys" a reputation then I'm not sure any pro runner (or many amateurs) have any reputation left.
Of course, neither does the "stuck with match.com" handle at this point.
