I have quite alot of factual information about S I a joint fusion surgery for quite a few reasons. First of all, am a patient. Additionally I work with a physician who has quite a bit of experience with S I joint patients. Here is what I know from my own personal experience. In 2011 i had fusion surgery of L5-S1. Two years later I started suffering hip pain bilaterally. It was difficult to sleep and walking caused pain in both hips but also extreme lower back pain. My family doctor didn’t know why. The neurosurgeon had no clue. Then I moved to California and I met Dr. Mark King in Roseville California. When he saw the way I was sitting in my chair and learned my history about fusion surgery in my lower back he immediately guessed that it was S I joint issues. Over the course of the next year here is what I learned. Fusion of your Low Back discs solves the immediate problems. Unfortunately when you use those discs it changes the way your body mechanics cope with the distribution of weight. Your sacroiliac joints, which are not intended to move in anyway, now I have to except the weird distribution of weight caused by the fusion of your lower back disc’s. Overtime the S I joint’s become inflamed and actually start to move. This begins to cause not only local pain when you touch your hips. But causes severe lower back pain. There are a series of diagnostic tests that can be ordered to confirm whether or not you are suffering from S I joint issues. In my case Dr. King eventually referred me to Dr. Philip Orisek ein Folsom CA. I had right side SI Joint fusion surgery on 9/28/17. I am now entering my 4th week of recovery. In December I will have left side SI Joint fusion surgery. And...after I have completed my recovery, I will be applying for my first job in 4 years. I will take my dog for his first walk in 4 years. I am 60 years old, and I thank God for my chance at life again. Dr Mark King of Roseville CA and Dr Philip Orisek of Folsom CA have been the 2 best things that EVER happened to me. If you want more details please contact me through this post. I am more than happy to give you any information I can
