explains nothing other than he sucks now.
i mean, come on guys he is the DEAL OF THE CENTURI!
Don't you remember the 3:42.51 he RAN?????
I saw it on FLOTRAK....i KNOW you did too.
like the JO's say...."TALENT DOSENT GO AWAY SOON"!!!!!
methinks a comebake is in STORE!
I hope Webb reads all the sh*t-talking and keeps this in his head:
great interview Ian so thank you for posting that!
one thing to say is his face looks extremly relaxed and fing happy in that interview. nothing like the past 2-3 years where most interviews he looked frustrated and tired or pissed off.
if he is healy and happy he is going sub 3:47 and sub 1:45 this year.
Just watched the interview...He predicted before hand that he was going to run 1:55...Not worried at all. I would be a lot more worried if he had thought he was going to run faster and didn't.

Yes, but there is no way he's going to make it back as a national contender, forget world contender, running 1:55 with only 5 months before the OT. We've been listening to this now for 3+ yrs.
Im a huge Webb supporter. This is devastating. There is no f-ing way Alan Webb should run 1:55. This would be like the aspiring NCAA champ opening in 2:05. He is done. He may run 3:35 at some point and be a national player. But he will never be an international player again.
wow
An eyewitness told me that Webb was furious with his time and used a lot of expletives when he saw it. He was far from OK with it.
Maybe he ran as a chick. That's a great girls time.

Then why did he predict that that's what he would run? He's probably mad about losing, not about the time
Alan Webb can do whatever he wants. I'm happy to just see that he's still giving it a shot. He could have just gone away after his Michigan troubles, or his first year after that where he didn't do any better...but he stuck with it. He's 29 and still trying. Props to him.
1:55 is not a good time, but he's obviously not fit. I would not be surprised to see him pop a 1:51-1:52 in a few weeks, and go from there. I see Webb running 1:47.5ish and 3:36ish this year if he stays healthy and motivated. It's unlikely he'll be olympic competitive, but that's not a reason to bash him. Anyone who keeps trying and gets out the door, fast or slow has my support. Webb has done a lot to boost excitement in our sport, and has inspired many people which nobody, and no 1:55's can erase. Anyone who lived through his sr year of hs, and the years to come after took something away from what he has accomplished, and the rise he has helped give to the sport.
Best post in the thread so far. I completely agree with everything you said. It's so easy to criticize from the sidelines. Have to give credit to him for still going after it.
This year is going to be the fifth anniversary of Webb's 3:46 mile. Nobody would have predicted then how his career would derail like this. Even Stember at the tail end of his career could run a 1:48 800. Maybe Webb is now simply a 4:00 minute miler.

^This.
1:55 sucks massively...a couple of years ago I ran under 2:00, after age 40.
And Webb's having aimed for 1:55 sucks even more.
1:55 with mere months to the Olympics?
Sucks. WTF Webb
But, even though 1:55 sucks, Webb is still infinitely better than Solinskrap...
Webb both started AND finished the race, and that shows that he's not a dipshxt like Solinskrap.
Webb has gone way faster...he KNEW it was going to be a crap time...but did he bail out with 100 to go? NO. He saw it through, like a real man.
More than that, if he really was going for a 1:55, he KNEW he was out of shape when he lined up...and GOOD FOR HIM that he did line up anyway. You don't wimp out even if you think you're going to suck, because wimping out sucks more than not winning.
1:55 might not be good relative to 1:46, but it is INFINITELY better than DNF or DNS.
So why don't we all stop the Webb-bashing...it is Solinskrap who we should be bashing.
He doesn't have half the character that Webb displayed in starting and finishing his 1:55.
I hope Webb improves, and soon.
