A 58 year old running a 2:10 marathon, freaking priceless! I love this thread. My favorite was the one about the janitor someone said who ran 3:30 for the mile! Hilarious!

I'm in the military I hear all kinds of claims by non-runners. I just laugh. I never correct them it's pointless. BUT the new one that really kills me is that I work with all these crossfitters who claim crossfit is the only kind of exercise you need to do and there's no reason to ever run longer than maybe a mile. What a joke.
Ever heard of cardiovascular endurance? You may want some long cardio somewhere in your workout...swimming, spinning, running, cross country skiing, pick one.
I read through this entire thread on nobody has mentioned (St.) Ralph's time trials around the lake in the rain at night on a muddy trail that calculated to near world record pace.
Or maybe that one was too easy of a target?
I thought it was a parody or maybe he has some kind of disability. If not, I feel kinda bad that he might eventually realize what a loser he's been. He can't even deny it since it is all documented on Athlinks http://athlinks.com/search/athlete/Michael%20Boever

This nonsense really needs its own thread. I can't believe someone wrote a nice long article about this kid, complete with the nice picture showing off all of the finisher "bling."

1) He ran a 5:14 marathon. impressive...
2) Stressing his coaching towards training 4x a week totaling 22 mpw
3) He thinks the next logical step is ultras, including a 500 mile run. obviously
good for him getting a write up though. i guess he could be doing worse things

Least impressive claim by a non-runner runner

This is the funniest thing I've seen in a long while. He got his parents to spend $16K to fly him around, put him in nice hotels, take him to the Charger game, and enjoy the town, and he STILL ditches his 22mpw training plan? This kid has to be one of the biggest wimps I've ever heard of.
In fact, this is so ridiculous it deserves its own thread. So I made it. Enjoy.

I once had a guy tell me that everyone in his gym class had to run a 4 minute mile in order to pass the course. Tough class!
it has seriously taken this long to get to that guy from the power lifting website message boards who claimed he ran a 3:40 mile or something and vehemently defended it despite multiple other non runners telling him it was impossible. someone even linked a video of el g's wr and he still defended himself
Some Indian guy named billy or something told me he won the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. What a joke.
I agree. At one of my military schools, I heard all this bragging from some youngsters. Both had almost broken 9:20 for their 2-mile run in the APFT(or so they said). Of course, this is after performing 2-minutes worth of pushups and 2-minutes worth of siutps. Needless to say, I buried both of them and neither one broke 11 minutes. Their response was that we ran on a cinder track, it was only 1.5 laps for the 2-mile and they couldn't figure the pace. This was held at Fort Benning, GA. The other odd thing I heard was from a middle aged woman who was very good for her age group. She usually won all the local races for her age group and did well overall. I ocassionally spoke with her after some of the local races. I had moved down South after college and was managing a sporting goods store at the time and she frequented it only when there was a sale. I waited on her this time and she asked me if I had ever ran a marathon. I stated I was a miler in college and had only raced up to a half-marathon distance so far(I was 24 at the time). She went on to say that I couldn't call myself a runner. You are only a runner if you finish a marathon, she lamented. Since she was still in the customer mode, I hesitated saying what I was thinking, but instead stated well I guess being a four-time All-American doesn't count you as a runner. A couple of the other customers laughed about the whole ordeal. She left without buying anything and never returned to the store.
