Does anyone think that a lot of these "none" people have no idea how long a mile actually is?

What a waste and big time spoiling. Dumb ass kid should have asked for something like banging chicks in all 50 states, indulgent parents probably would have gone along w/ it.
Some guy who used to be a decent runner at my school told me that he ran a sub-4 minute mile but they didnt count it as the school record because the stopwatches got messed up... this is like a 70 year old man who is actually a runner? why would a runner make up this story that noone is going to believe haha now he is a janitor at our school
Classmates at the D2 school I go to who are on the soccer team claimed everyone on the soccer team ran a 3 mile time trial every week, and that they all broke 15 minutes easily each time. I asked them where they ran it, and the route they claimed to have run was 4 miles in distance. I asked them to partake in the trials next summer, as 3:45 pace for 4miles is phenomenal!
The other one, I work for a race timing company, and we have to put up with the non-typical "runners" complaining about their time not being recorded, because, despite the chip start, they stayed in the bathroom for 25 minutes. The start was on a highway, and the race director was only able to get us half an hour of blocked road from the state highway department. The ladies complained that they did the whole race and didn't have a race time. We took what time their chip registered at the finish, and then gave them an 8:00am start time. We called it the "Crap + Run Relay".
Also overheard at a race we timed: a walker, who walked a marathon, asked the 5k race director if her kid(13 years old) could rollerblade beside her. The race director said "NO". And she got upset, and said "I've trained for walking a marathon, I can walk REALLY fast." She was about 40 and weighed about 250 lbs.

haha. this article is great. it reads like an onion article.
1) He ran a 5:14 marathon. impressive...
2) Stressing his coaching towards training 4x a week totaling 22 mpw
3) He thinks the next logical step is ultras, including a 500 mile run. obviously
good for him getting a write up though. i guess he could be doing worse things
Oddly enough I've never heard anything too ridiculous as far as personal claims. I did get accused of lying about my PR's by a non-runner one time in high school. I told him I had just run a mile PR of 4:38. He said "you're lying, the world record is like 4:25." We went through this with every single one of my PR's from 800m to 5k. I'm not sure where he got his numbers, or if he was just playing a hunch that I was lying and trying to catch me slipping, or quite possibly that he just wanted to piss me off. This actually happened with my boss as well, although he didn't think I was lying, he just thought I was hella fast. Kinda hated having to burst his bubble on that one...
This nonsense really needs its own thread. I can't believe someone wrote a nice long article about this kid, complete with the nice picture showing off all of the finisher "bling."

Why didn't you bust out your computer and show him the records? Or was this before the internet age?

I was talking to my wife's aunt about the marathon and she said "my dad runs marathons still and he's 58, how fast do you run?" My answer was 2:30. She said "My dad runs 2:10." My wife didn't understand why I was mad!

Jesus I can't believe this article is real damn that kid is a huge faggot. His FASTEST half was 8:20 miles and he trains 22mpw on 4 days a week; impressive for a 8 year old but a 16 year old? On top of that according to the article he pretended to do most runs by just hiding in a tree...
does this kid get called out for being a pussy ass bitch? no of course not he gets a 2 page article fawning over him and the comments on the article are even worse. If you ever wondered why america is going to shit it's this right here.
oh I also thought it was funny that he doesn't work out with his HS xc or track teams
I started running in the middle of my junior year in high school and fairly quickly got up to about 10 miles a day (regrettably too quickly). During my senior year my sister (a sophomore) made the pom pom squad. She constantly bragged about how easy running was compared to what she did and that runners were more or less wussies.
So I invited her to go on a 10 mile run, which she gladly accepted. We started out slowly and progressively got slower and at about 1 mile (probably about 10 minute pace) she announced she had enough and was going back.
Never heard a bleep from her ever again about how easy running was compared to anything.
One dude claimed he was the first person ever to run 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days.
One time an overweight gentleman in his mid 30s told me that when he was in the SEALs he ran a 1:30 FULL marathon with a 50 pound pack on.
I was visiting someone who I hadn't seen in awhile and complemented how I thought he lost weight. He told me that he ran an hour everyday. I invited him out for a run the next day around a lake. We had to doing around 10-11 min pace if not slower and he couldn't make it over 2 miles. He complained that his shoes were bothering him and caused him too much pain to continue. He was wearing high-tops. Anyway the next day I went running with him again but this time he had on tennis shoes. Dude couldn't make it past a few miles again. Anyway, I find out later on that he's a complusive liar.
Heavier dude at party (with beer cup in hand): I heard you like to run...
Me: Yep!
Heavier dude at party (with beer cup in hand): What's your best 5K time?
Me: well...I...
Heavier dude at party (with beer cup in hand): (cuts me off) I once ran one in 15 minutes as a high school freshmen but the coach wanted me to focus on baseball on instead.
In HS a guy on the soccer team said he could run a mile in under 4:20. He came out to a meet and ran the 400m somewhere between 63 & 65. He was on pace, I guess.
Wow, he ran 2:11 in Denver this October. My wife, a non-runner ran it faster. SMH.
