I once overheard a douchebag I work with tell a co-worker he "wasn't in as good a shape, but he could still get out and run a 4-minute mile." True story.
I did not have sexual relations with that woman.
One of my friends on the soccer team in high school said he was going to come out and show us what real running was all about. He said he would probably run the 400. I asked him what he could run, and he said that in a good race he could go 65!
I had some guy come up to me and say that he ran a 3:50 mile in his high school gym class. I asked him how many laps he ran for this mile, and he replied with "25".
One of my friends form college will not let go of how in highschool he states he ran 1:55 and 48 in the 800/400 but when i looked his districts race from his senior year his team ran a 8:20 in the 4x8 and he wasn't on the 4x4 team and ran no individual events.... he also says he had a 40inch vertical despite not being able to touch rim now....
I was talking to some older acquaintances from church about another friend who just completed a 100-mile ultra and told them that he kept about a 12 minute pace throughout. One older mid-50's guy says, "Really? That's it? I can walk a mile in about 6 minutes!" Even all the other non-runners realized this was a completely stupid remark, and the conversation immediately ended.
A guy I used to work with said that back when he was playing high school football the coach had them run 26 miles in full pads at least once a week as part of their training. Frighteningly, that's not even his tallest tale.

I've walked a mile in 6 minutes before
The elite race walkers can do a 5k in under 20 minutes I think.
I didn't believe you until I saw the results online. You seriously did a 6 minute mile walking? I usually go 15 minutes/mile when walking at a brisk pace. The fastest I think I could go is like 10 minutes for a mile.http://usatf.org/statistics/topMarks/2006/indoormen.aspx#3000%20race%20walk

A guy I know was talking about running track in high school. He was telling us about how his friend went out to hard in the mile and blew up. He started out, "He went through halfway on world-record pace . . ." He was probably just using hyperbole, but I had to catch myself before I said something like, "there is no way your friend opened up a mile race in 1:51.5!"

haha yeah it is HARD. requires you to really not tense up in the legs or else you can't move them fast enough. it's a very interesting feeling. super exhausting too.
That running hurts your knees and I should switch to the elliptical.
This happened about 25 years ago well before I started running any races but I did some running just to get in shape. I was in great tennis shape and could really out run and outlast most opponents in their 30's (didn't win but I didn't get winded).
I started running to get in great tennis shape and thought I was doing pretty good. So I decided to time myself on my runs. I grabbed a stop watch and I kept getting very low 15 minute times for 3.1 miles. I checked the watch for accuracy a couple times and it was telling accurate times. I told a couple of running tennis friends and they initially were incredulous but I convinced them that it was true. They were amazed.
Later I found out that when I ran, the up and down motion slowed the stop watch I was using. Damn not a gifted runner.
In HS I was decent, trained hard, ran mid 9's for 32. A soccer player in the hallway "if i trained as hard as you, I'd beat you."

For example I heard a girl you doesn't do any form of running say that she ran a 11.6 on grass in PE in bare feet for the 100m. I think she was also about 14. Any others?
Did you mean from a 'nun' runner?
In junior high, a nun once bragged to me about her weekly mileage. While pretending to look her over, I quipped that she had developed quite a 'habit'
She responded somewhat violently.

What's so ridiculous about this? It very well may have been true.
