Does Cal Poly (3rd in the West) have any shot at going ot Nationals?
nope, sorry. If Stanford had run 1 more runner from their home meet at regionals you might have had a chance. It takes 3 runners to constitute an "A" team and they only ran Tenforde and Davis at their Home meet and at Regionals.
3rd in the tough west region they have to make it? how could they not make it?
isnt this the 2nd time in 3 or 4 years this has happened to them? bummer, man
The guys on the team who were there when Cal Poly was 3rd in the region and beating top 15 ranked Oregon who had mad at large points (2 or 3 years ago) refer to the Monday after regionals as "Black Monday" when they found out they were not going to NCs.
This is a perfect example of a team peaking at regionals running good enough to make the top 30 and not getting to go. The at-large system does not work.
Yep, two years ago they got screwed. I guess they should go back to D2? Fucking shame. Maybe they can go to IC4As?
I thought that super-regionals was stupid, but it's better than this crap. Of course, there's still some at-large bids in super-regionals... And SLO will be in the crazy super-region with Mountain, West, and SouthCentral regions!
We were on the team two years ago and watched the race today. It sucks to see this happen again. Our hats go off to the Poly team today though. They ran great when it counted, as usaul. Good job boys!
I really have no clue how the decision process works. Cal Poly ran awesome today, finishing 3rd behind 2 top 8 teams, and 3rd in the region, and they don't get to go, yet how many schools from the Great Lakes go? 9?
How many are automatic, and how many are at large?
It seems like there should be some voting by coaches involved, and some credit should be given to running great when it counts.
Hate to be a hater, but the West is down big time this year. The 9 teams from the GL and the 6 from the Mountain would all beat Cal Poly and did so handily at PreNats.
They deserved it 2 years ago, not as much this year. If you wanna complain about teams they should have gotten in over - look at the South Central with Texas and Texas A&M.
The west is not so far down they only deserve 2 teams... if ASU had been 4th, then the west sends 4 teams and nobody would be saying any of them were undeserving!
I'm sure Cal-Poly has a great team that would do well at NCAA, but I don't think that A&M is less deserving. The 2 teams had almost identical results at Pre-Nats, though they ran in different divisions. Also, like Cal-Poly, A&M is a team that runs much better late in the season.
