Why would they put up a cross at the celebration of Jesus's birth?

Jesus Christ came into the world to die on the cross:
"Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour." ~John 12:27
Jesus came into the world to demonstrate the true purpose of life and give Himself as a ransom:
"Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life as a ransom for many." ~Matthew 20:28
The Father SENT Jesus and gave Jesus as the Saviour of the world:
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." ~John 3:16-18
"But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons." ~Galatians 4:4-5
And don't forget what Simeon the prophet prophesied only eight days after Jesus was born:
On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.
Jesus Presented in the Temple:
When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lordâ€), and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.â€
Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
“Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
you may now dismiss your servant in peace.
For my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:
a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and the glory of your people Israel.â€
The child’s father and mother marveled at what was said about him. Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.†~Luke 2:21-35
Christians are saved from the consequence of their sins, death, (Romans 6:23) through Jesus' sacrifice of his sinless life on the cross, (and have eternal life because he conquered death and rose again!), which is the very reason Jesus Himself claimed to have come into the world. So shouldn't we be thankful for the reason Jesus came into this world, and be thankful for Him coming giving his life for us! Without the cross there is no hope of salvation!
