Vin and Joe V. are too old. Sparks has age on his side! But numerous MVC wins, are you serious? He's had 20 chances (10 men, 10 women) and they have 2 men's titles and tied for a 3rd title. Southern has only 1 indoor MVC title since 2002 (when Sparks started) and that was this year which was led by the efforts of the throwers. And we all know the MVC is a power conference with teams like Indiana State and UNI dominating recently!
And one more thing and I'm done, 9 out of 10 years North Central (D3) would beat Southern in XC. NCC wins Illinois Intercollegiates almost every year, but Sparks won't run them because he doesn't want to get beat.
Anyone on the inside know what's up at North Carolina. I've heard only the throws coach stays, but also heard that the Jumps guy might stay too. Any information out there?
Illinois should hire a more qualified coach with an actual record instead of hiring, once again, a coach with zero experience coaching his own team! Hiring Kennedy last year (a coach with no actual experience other than assisting Santos at Iona) was odd - another hire like this two years in a row proves once again why Illinois is 2nd or 3rd tier in the Big Ten.
Does anyone know WHO recommended Gavin Kennedy for the Mississippi job? I understand he did NOT seek out this position but was recruited by a 3rd party and then, basically, bribed to go to Mississippi.
I heard the throw and jump is staying, but the sprint/Hurdles and distance coaches are out.
Can someone comfirm Mario Wilson to UVa?
Mick may have recommended him.
Siena College near Albany, NY needs a men's and women's distance coach. They're DI but only sponsor XC. Lots of room for improvement. A good first head coaching job for someone. This isn't listed yet but it will be soon.
What position is Clemson Advertising for? is it for sure Caoch Mario Wilson?
Spucks or whatever the F*cks your name is.
You are all that is good and awesome in the world of running. Just so you know, North Central would be 3rd-4th in the MVC in their absolute best year (8k short course D-III Nationals, included).
I have no dog in this fight, but I am a college coach at s national qualifying program (not DIII) and will say that the North Central College xc teams are consistently better then a majority of DI xc teams. Say what you want, but check the ego at the door, there is no question about it. A good college xc team is made up of a depth of good xc runners, not 1-2 guys with flash track PR's. North Central just keeps developing guys year in and year because of tradition. You can't buy that.
Is there anyone who might be interested in, or knows someone who might be interested in, a part time coaching position for throws. The pay would be about 10k and could include on campus housing and a meal plan. The basic responsibilities are coach the throwers, plan and run a summer throws camp and recruit 3-4 men and 3-4 women per year. This position is governed by a CBA and is an hourly position. This might be a good job for someone who wants to continue competing and training. We have all new throwing areas and adequate indoor place to practice and a small but well equipped weight room. We also have all the implements and equipment. Email me or look my numbers up on my face book page.

Marc Burns? He coached at Loyola, went to Wichita State and is now at Bradley. He's got strong IL ties, so it only makes sense. I hope they go with Sparks.
Sparks, Bovee or Burns would be a good choice. Burns has been a head coach and is currently a head coach, so he is used to doing things his way. I would go with Sparks. Great at bringing out the best in his kids and is a very good recruiter.
Sparks was in the Big 10 (coached at Ohio State with womens team) and they were awful.
5th best runner in each distance event in MVC wouldn't be in the top 30 in the Big 10.
What about Craig Virgin?
hey ACUer, since you have seen me in action, who am I? Yall dont recruit TX kids anymore anyway?!
